Ambleside is a honey trap, necessary to help with the millions of tourists visiting the lake district just like keswick, windermere etc. There is peace and quiet to be found quite easily outside but do not expect it in the town. Ambleside is now busy 12 months of the year. Traffic is a pain and parking is in short supply. There are good eating places - not all at tourist prices - and more shops selling outdoor gear than you can shake a stick at

Ambleside is a fantastic location for accessing some great walks and also good bus service up to the higher walks beyond Grasmere. Ambleside has plenty of restaurants covering all tastes, including the brilliant vegetarian Zefferelli's and Fellini's, Julie's pantry, and Thai restaurant. Also has two independent cinemas!

Ambleside is a beautiful place and we cannot wait to visit again. There are plenty of independent shops and eating places. We ate at Dodds which was really good and would definitely recommend. Walking around Ambleside on an evening felt extremely safe. Also traffic appeared to flow very well, although it is worth noting that there is a one way system in place.

There is plenty to see in Ambleside with an excellent range of shops and places to eat. There was lots of live music over the weekend. We saw a fantastic jazz band at Zeffireli's. Our biggest disappointment was Hill Top - make sure you book in advance otherwise they won't let you park in the carpark and visit the property.

A tourist hotspot which manages to retain its charm and genuine feel. Very well equipped (of course!) with a range of restaurants and cafes and pubs. A great base to walk from in all directions of the compass.

A lovely picturesque cottage on a cute terrace in the middle of Ambleside with parking right outside. Lots of space for everyone, a bathroom in every room (plus other communal bathrooms). Lovely well tended gardens front and rear with nice furniture. It has a drying room too for avid walkers. There's loads of space for a lot of people to share, and still not be on top of each other.

I liked the dog friendly room being separate from main building and that it was comfortable & cosy. The location was perfect, very near to centre of Ambleside & free parking next to lodge. Very friendly staff & all spotlessly clean.
