This property is just beautiful. Everything is done very tastefully with beautiful grounds, a lovely peaceful pool area and a stunning courtyard in which to eat. Staff at this Hotel went out of their way to help us and were very friendly. They offered advise on where to visit locally and where eat. All these were great recommendations. They leant us a kettle and even helped us with providing milk. They helped us with a change of room at no extra cost. The breakfast was excellent. Overall the Hotel exceeded our expectations. While rooms are simple, they are clean and quiet and all that is needed.

The apartment was definitely the best choice we could have. The host was very nice, the apartment was spacious and very clean. The apartment had all the necessary things, the kitchen was better equipped than any other apartment I have booked. The beds were very comfortable and large and the apartment was very quiet. The location of the apartment is excellent. In the centre of the historic old town, the building itself was exceptional. Carole met us at the door and showed us round.The apartment is very quirky with great attention to detail. Spotlessly clean with everything we needed for our five day trip.

We wanted to visit Strasbourg but didn't want to drive into...

We wanted to visit Strasbourg but didn't want to drive into the city so we chose Selestat with it's easy train link. We didn't expect to love Selestat better. The old town is very compact and easy to walk around. Lovely restaurants and great boulangeries.

Small very pretty Alsace town centre.

Small very pretty Alsace town centre. Good shopping, reasonable range of eating choices. Short drive from our hotel. Short walk between town centre and the railway station giving us access to other places such as Strasbourg when we chose to not drive.

We visited just before Christmas.

We visited just before Christmas. The centre of this beautiful town was nicely decorated with trees and lights everywhere and some small Christmas markets. Not as hectic as nearby Colmar, which we also visited. The shops in Sélestat offer a range of high quality and unusual gifts. There are some fantastic bakeries and coffee shops.

We chose to stay here as it seemed to be a good midpoint...

We chose to stay here as it seemed to be a good midpoint between Colmar and Strasbourg, both of which we intended to visit. However, upon arriving we abandoned plans to visit Strasbourg and instead spent the day in and around Selestat, is it was so lovely and not nearly as filled with tourists as Colmar had been. In particular, the tour through the castle nearby (Haut-Koenigsbourg) was outstanding. Also well worth visiting was the Bibliotheque Humaniste. We left wishing we'd spent a bit more time in this beautiful town - definitly a hidden gem!

Selestat was a very well placed town to explore the Alsace...

Selestat was a very well placed town to explore the Alsace region of France. It was smaller than both Strasbourg and Colmar and centrally located between those towns. Selestat had the same charm of these larger towns and we were able to make easy day trips to the larger towns and the many small villages in between. We took a week to allow easy exploration of the region, including some of the Vosges mountain range. Selestat had a good range of casual and higher end dining options, but without the crowds of bigger towns.

This was a true "Hotel de charme," with a nice bar/lounge downstairs, bedrooms upstairs (no lifts), and meals, at least in the summer, were served in a beautiful garden on the edge of the Ill river. Very pleasant host happy to give information and recommendations. Ample breakfast. Plenty of parking. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
