We felt lucky to get a large room on the third floor. It was quiet, light and comfortable. Lovely comfy bed. Loved the swimming pool area. Nice 3 minute walk into town and 3 minute walk to free parking. Exceptionally friendly young lady on reception. I would definitely stay here again. Great value for money in September.

Sarlat is a wonderful place. Everyone we met were friendly. The restaurants were excellent. My only complaint are the dogs! The French are lousy dog owners. The dogs are allowed to relieve themselves anywhere, and, the owners make no effort to clean it up. Walking down the main shopping street in the old town can be an adventure.

Sarlat-la-Caneda has been a great choice as the base of my stay in Dordogne. It is central and well equipped offering various tours in the region and access to superb restaurants in town and in its vicinity, like La Belle Etoile and Le Presidial to name two. I took three half-day tours to explore the villages of Dordogne, the Rocamadour, and the Lascaux caves with expert guides. I enjoyed all of them to the full. This has been one of my best solo trips!

Market was incredible on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Hard to get around without a car. We took several small tours with Ophorus and that great. Rented a car one day and would have liked to have it more. Getting in to the grottos, it's important to make reservations in advance at least a few days before even in the off-season.

Fabulous and unspoiled medieval city.

Fabulous and unspoiled medieval city. The city is divided by a straight road with many shops. It is good to explore both sides. One has all the main buildings the other side has a maze of charming streets. at night the town is gaslit - very atmospheric! The market is exceptional.

What a fantastic town to visit!

What a fantastic town to visit! Don't miss canoeing on the Dordogne but pick a company that lets you park your boat at Beynac, not 20 minutes past that town, if you plan to visit it. Don't miss Lascaux caves. Plan to spend 1-2 hours at the castles of Beynac and Castlenaud. The are both very well presented. The TI can give you a good list of taxis to take you to these towns and to Vitrac for canoes, and many of them speak English. Sarlat itself is gorgeous and fun to visit. Try to be there on a market day, an unforgettable experience.

We loved the town of Sarlat.

We loved the town of Sarlat. An old genuine medieval town, well kept. The markets were amazing, eateries, so much to see and do in and around Sarlat. Do NOT miss canoeing down the Dordogne either.

This was my favourite place to stay in all of France! The staff were lovely and accommodating, our room was fantastic and had the best amenities. The location is very central with markets multiple times per week right outside the front doors. The pool was heated and an absolute highlight. A treasure of a place to be sure!

La Couleuvrine is a charming hotel located within the medieval centre of Sarlat. The staff were welcoming. The room was very clean, spacious, beautifully decorated and amazingly quiet thanks to the triple-glazed windows, the bathroom modern and the breakfast was very good (especially the viennoiseries and the cheeses).
