Truly exceptional apartment, and hospitality by the host. Wonderful breakfast delivered to the door. This is not a midtown location, but close to the unique and huge ornithological reserve of the Leyre delta, and to the little ports of the Bassin with their oyster and fresh fish offerings. We were glad we found this, and can recommend it warmly. Merci!

The harbour for oyster lovers. Some restaurants do offer non marine based food. But we found a place called L'Hopa which was very good and another in la hume called Bistro 50 .(short train ride and short walk)

It has a natural nature vibe which is surprising as as the area is extensively developed. Most irritating thing is that shops and quite a few restaurants, Pizzerias close quite early which is irritating but I suppose makes it an authentic French experience.

Gujan-Mestras is not a particularly lively or beautiful...

Gujan-Mestras is not a particularly lively or beautiful village, Arcachon is much nicer, but it has its really nice parts: the costal area with great, very authentic oyster restaurants and oyster farms; the ornithological reservation; beautiful walk along the coast to an interresting area plage de la Hume etc...

Our favorite spot was still Les 7 Ports.

Our favorite spot was still Les 7 Ports. We enjoyed the takeaway food, especially the seafood platters. However, getting around Gujan-Mestras and the surrounding area is difficult due to traffic congestion. Activities are limited besides the beach and short cruises to explore the Arcachon Basin.

The setting is pleasant, with its small, illuminated harbor in the evening where you can enjoy delicious oysters at a very reasonable price. However, it's a bit difficult to get around due to the speed bumps and numerous roundabouts.

We were driving back to the UK from Spain and chose Gujan-Mestras as an interesting stop-off point. We weren't disappointed - the apartment was in a great location, close to shops and the lagoon. We were met by the host's mother, who showed us round the flat and kindly tolerated my terrible French. The flat itself was stylish, spotlessly clean and extremely comfortable - even the sofa bed. Would definitely stay again!
