The evening meal in the restaurant was fantastic! The room was simple but clean and comfortable and the atmosphere in the hotel was great with locals drinking at the bar and a lovely fire ( we were there in late October). We found it very welcoming and cosy and really appreciated the free lift in a minibus to Cheylard where we could resume the Stevenson trail in the morning. A big thank you to the staff for making it such a nice experience.

Whether it was offering local tips, ensuring we had everything we needed, or just sharing a friendly conversation, her hospitality was truly exceptional. For motorcyclists, this place is an absolute gem! The hotel offers secure private garage parking, which provided us with total peace of mind knowing our bikes were safe overnight. It’s clear that the hotel understands the needs of touring motorcyclists, making it an ideal stop for those exploring the region on two wheels. Our hotel room was superb—spacious, impeccably clean, and beautifully appointed. The attention to detail was evident, from the comfortable bed to the well-thought-out amenities. After a long day on the road, it was the perfect retreat to unwind and relax. And then there’s the restaurant—simply out of this world! The food was nothing short of extraordinary, a true five-star culinary experience. Every dish was beautifully presented, bursting with flavour, and made from the finest ingredients. Whether it was a perfectly cooked main course or a delightful dessert, each bite was an absolute pleasure. The dining experience alone makes this hotel worth visiting! To top it all off, La Grange Détente, the hotel’s wellness space, was a wonderful addition to our stay. The opportunity to relax and rejuvenate in such a tranquil setting was the perfect way to end our days. If you’re touring on a motorcycle, this hotel is an absolute must.

We had had a long days driving and had stayed in a really miserable hotel the night before for €110. Domaine de Barres was heaven. Lovely service from the lady on the front desk, great facilities, good food and a fantastic view. Would definitely recommend and stay there again

A large comfortable and well equipped apartment, conveniently situated above a shop with a petrol station opposite. Friendly and welcoming host. Peaceful.

Unmatched hospitality and value-for-money. Great terrace to kick your feet up after a long trek. This place is well worth cutting short stage 6 of the Stevenson Trail for!

It's queiky. But loved it. Overlooking the town, its a great position. Food was lovely and loads of choice of bottled beers.

My room was modern and spacious within a 19C high street hotel Guests need to be able to climb up and down stairs easily The staff were helpful and made a reservation for me at a nearby restaurant - which was excellent. Dinner was not served on site when I stayed. Breakfast was on site & very good

A great place to relax! The lakeside cabins proved to be the perfect choice – clean, well-equipped (kitchenette, bathroom, comfortable beds), and with a beautiful view of the water from the terrace. The area is quiet and peaceful, perfect for relaxing, walking, or enjoying morning coffee while listening to birdsong. The lake is very close by – perfect for swimming, kayaking, and fishing. The only downside was the lack of internet access for the entire stay (8 days).
