Hostal Lola

Located in the small town of Isaba, in the Roncal Valley, Hostal Lola is ideal for exploring the Navarese Pyrenees. All of the cosy and colourful rooms have mountain views.

We only stayed for one night at Hostal Lola, but this was our best accommodation of a two week trip to Northern Spain. The building has a lovely old facade, but the interior is thoroughly modern and very tastefully decorated. The staff were all super friendly, and the breakfast was very good. Our room was more than large enough, with doors to the balcony, and we had terrific views. The bathroom was modern, and everything worked well. The general standard of Hostal Lola is so high that we asked the owner why it is not classified as a hotel. We were surprised to learn that this is only due to outdated Spanish regulations, which state you need a landline phone connection to be a hotel. Let's hope that the regulations catch up with the 21st Century! Isaba is a small village in the middle of the mountains, so it is an excellent place for some walking (you can find an old Roman bridge if you venture out) and relaxing. If you come by car or motorbike, there is free public parking just around the corner - it's a two minute walk. Cyclists are also very welcome. I strongly recommend this Hostal.

We actually used it as a base camp for exploring the Roncal...

We actually used it as a base camp for exploring the Roncal Valley and surrounding areas. We took a couple of strolls around the village, which was picturesque and very much a mountain village. Perhaps we noticed this in several other Navarrese villages: few shops, bakeries, supermarkets, etc.

Everything is magnificent. I ate at the Ezkaurre restaurant. Fantastic! Unfortunately, Tapia was on vacation. Besides, you can go to many wonderful places by car. And young people can go hiking. In Roncal, you can eat very well in Errota. David is great. And going up to Belagua is essential to be close to the sky and, incidentally, see wild horses.

The village was beautiful, although we didn't have time to...

The village was beautiful, although we didn't have time to explore it thoroughly. It's a 12-minute drive from Larra Belagua (Mata de Haya). It has a large free parking area. There's a bar and a couple of restaurants. I also think there was a cheese shop.

A very pretty village, like all the others in the valley.

A very pretty village, like all the others in the valley. If you visit the valley off-season, Isaba has the most amenities, with shops, bars, and restaurants. Recommended for lunch: Casa Tapia. Recommended accommodation: Hostal Lola. Recommended walk: the hike up to the Belagua viewpoint is worthwhile.

A very pretty village with all the necessary amenities,...

A very pretty village with all the necessary amenities, mountain trails starting right from the village and close to other more technical routes. Highly recommended for getting away from it all and enjoying both walks and the local cuisine.

I already knew Isaba because it's a mountainous area; it's a...

I already knew Isaba because it's a mountainous area; it's a charming spot, which is why we chose it to spend New Year's Eve. The people are very friendly and the atmosphere is fantastic. It's a place I highly recommend, and God willing, we'll be back next year. Goodbye, and thanks to Javier for his kindness.
