FAQs about hotels in Cairo

Resting Place of Pharaohs

Born of an ancient civilisation, Cairo is a vast metropolis centred around the Nile. Its sheer scale can feel overwhelming (especially when flying over it into Cairo Airport), so plan ahead. An obvious starting point are the Giza Pyramids. Although the pharaohs are long gone, the grandeur of their burial pyramids, the Sphinx and Solar Boat are testament to their ambition.

The city’s Egyptian Museum houses a dazzling display of ancient Egyptian artefacts, including finds from Tutankhamun’s tomb in Luxor. Around the corner is Tahrir, a huge square and focal point of the 2011 Egyptian Revolution.

East is Islamic Cairo, home to 9th-century Ibn Tulun Mosque, Al-Azhar Mosque (site of the world’s oldest university), and the Khan el-Khalili souk – remember to haggle. The Citadel, with its elegant Mohammed Ali Pasha Mosque, sits on a hill offering far-reaching city views.

If you want to step out of cultural tours, take a Nile cruise by felucca, spot wildlife in Wadi Digla desert park or visit Egypt’s top theme parks: Dream Park and Magic Land, where you can tour Egyptian TV studios.

Before heading to your Cairo accommodation, sample the local cuisine – the falafel and fuul (bean paste) are delicious. Turkish coffee is a staple and there are hundreds of shisha bars, while major Cairo hotels have bars serving alcohol.

Cairo is a very intense and chaotic place.

Cairo is a very intense and chaotic place. We spent one day exploring Giza area and another day exploring Old Cairo. The pyramids were amazing, from Giza to Saqqara. Old Cairo is very cool in its own way, but honestly I would have preferred to cut my stay by 1 day to add an extra day in Luxor. Unfortunately, I got to the city when the GEM was closed so I didn't get to see it. Cairo museum was good but a bit run down.

NOT recommended. The worst city I've seen so far.

NOT recommended. The worst city I've seen so far. Dirty, noisy, messy. ugly. Everything is broken. Traffic is a permanent screaming chaos. Dust in the air makes you cough the day you arrive. Car horns at night keep you awake. Not a single finished house in sight.

Well the ancient civilization is defiantly something to see and visiting the Pyramids with the circular hop on and off bus really makes the visit easy. Tours are cheap and expertly managed and generally no problem in using English. The big problem area is money exchange and ATMs. If your in a 5 star hotel changing money is not difficult. The difficulties come with ATM that only use 4 digit PIN numbers. My PIN has 6 digits and did not work. Also USD are accepted but other currencies are difficult to exchange. For a No 1 tourist venue this is surprising.

Cairo is a wonderful and fascinating city.

Cairo is a wonderful and fascinating city. It is very safe to walk around - little to no petty crime. The people are wonderful once you get used to the aggressiveness of some vendors. (Just smile and say "no" and keep your smile - they can be persistent but I just joke with them) Look up info on the city before you go - I found "Gventures" on YouTube entertaining and informative.

It’s in the Cairo city center very near to all famous landmarks including Egyptian Museum, famous local market where you could find anything for cheap price. Hotel has a brilliant guide person call Mr Abdullah who provides you with all the excursions from Airport pick up to Giza pyramid tours, Nile cruise with dinner buffets and city tours for very reasonable prices.

The room was spacious and good. The breakfast is one of the best I had in a touristic hotel in Egypt. Good selection and the manager was very helpful. The location is very close to airport and city sightseeing if that is what you are looking for. We just had 1 day before flying back so booked here to do go around Cairo. It is probably far away to watch the pyramids.

The rooftop terrace had an amazing view of the Pyramids and Sphinx. Location good with taxis, easily organised by the hotel. We went to the Egyptian Museum for less than £2.00 around a 45 minute journey, cost us a bit more to get back. Don't expect 5 star, but for the excellent price, you can't go wrong. Helpful management and staff

This is the best hotel in the building and in the area. Excellent service, strategic location, and close to all of Egypt's landmarks. The metro is only one minute away. Karam El Sham and Abu Mazen restaurants, two of the most luxurious restaurants, are also near the hotel.
