This little gem was in a perfect location, right in the heart of this beautiful city. Staff were super friendly and attentive. We slept so well thanks to the comfortable bed and superb air conditioning. The breakfast was the best I’ve ever had in a hotel - from the delicious home-made baked beans, to the wonderful selection of meats and cheeses, fresh breads, pastries, yogurts and fruit. The hotel bar was beautiful and well priced. We had an amazing stay - thank you!

I liked the old town with the water channels and the character buildings. We walked up the hill and climbed the viewing tower and had an excellent view over the city and surrounding countryside. The Dokumentationszentrum Nationalsozialismus (Documentation Centre for National Socialism) in Freiburg was very impressive. We stayed there to be close to Frankfurt airport and able to fly directly to Scotland.

The staff is excellent, very helpful and professional. The room was great,the bed comfortable. The windows can be opened and block out all noise. Our room was on the traintrack side and with closed windows no noise was detected. The breakfast was delicious with variations for any taste. The dinner options are minimal, mostly pizza or varieties thereof.

A friendly and fairly typical town, the centre is pleasant, the cathedral is worth a look, some of the restaurants are very eclectic (be careful about opening hours) and you get good value for money. That said, it's not really a place to spend a week, unless you want to visit the Black Forest.

Easy to get around using the various trams (remember you can buy tickets from machines on most trams with English option). Knowing which ticket would be the best ticket is a little confusing if you know only a little German. If you like Spa's Keidel Bad thermal spar is a good destination for a Day Tram (No3) and Bus ride No34. There are many walks nearby and further afield. The transport system is very versatile train, tram and bus system.

Freiburg is an excellent choice for those wanting to see typical Black Forest buildings and culture. The cathedral is very impressive, with many sculptures and and a very detailed exterior. Those interested in architectural restoration will find detailed information about the continual process of renewing the cathedral. Restaurant selection in the Altstadt is good, and an efficient streetcar system can take you outside the city walls if you want something farther afield. There are lots of hiking trails in the hills above the city. Everyone I dealt with spoke English, and quite a few signs in museums and the cathedral were also in English. QR codes are frequent for those who want more info. One museum ticket gets you into several museums on the same day (good activities if it's raining).
