We arrived past midnight (because Garmiche-Partenkirchen is 2 hours train from Munich airport - getting a train for 60 euros RETURN is far better than an airport-transfer or taxi for nearly 300 euros EACH WAY). When we arrived, we were greeted really warmly, offered food, drinks an they even made some gluten-free stuff for our kids. The room was pretty large - had lots of facilities and beautiful views of the (snowy) mountains. Breakfast was fantastic, loads of options - and amusingly, lots of machines with precision-german-engineering to do things like cut your butter for you, make fresh pancakes etc. Whilst there - we used the free shuttle service to take us around - and we have to give a shout out to Winifred, who knows all the hidden gems of G-P - took us to a tobogganing hill with the hotels loaned toboggans where we spent the day enjoying the snow. Really nice guy! Dinner was also great - a new menu each evening, with very finely presented plates ('northen european' food is normally fairly bland looking). We used the pool which had a great mixture of things for adults and kids to enjoy - it also has a full spa for the adults and also a 'games room' with pool, air-hockey, darts, arcade machines - basically, everything a family could want. It's a better 4* hotel than a some 5* hotels I have been to. G-P is a charming little town (helped by the blanket of snow), the Christmas market was somewhat small, but we enjoyed ourselves anyway. It's about the mountains really - would definitely consider returning.

Ettals main, and only, attraction is the Abbey.

Ettals main, and only, attraction is the Abbey. Which is certainly impressive. You'll most likely visit Ettal for the region, as it is a great point to start your hikes and/or visit Oberammergau and Garmisch-Partenkichen. Munchen and Innsbruck are only an hour drive away.

This busy hotel has the feeling of a youth hostel.

This busy hotel has the feeling of a youth hostel. Rooms are simply but practically equipped. There’s a constant coming and going of tourists. Unfortunately, I couldn’t bring me dog to breakfast. I wasn’t told that outside it is possible. Breakfast was basic. Scrambled eggs came in squared chunks, thus probably defrozen. Lots of plastic (Marmelade, Butter,…) The whole personnel is polish. Everyone was very friendly and helpful, I had just expected a Bavarian host. All in all my stay here felt like holidays off an assembly line.

This is one of the best apartments we have stayed in. Very well designed, equipped, clean, comfortable and spacious. Peta is very friendly and kind. She kept the heater running for us as we didn't expect summer would be this cold for the last few days. The location is off the main road, quiet, next to a nice restaurant, opposite the Ettal monastery and brewery, very close to a nice little bakery which offers good simple breakfast and 15 km away from Zugspitze.

Alphotel Ettal offers a charming and cozy retreat in a beautiful alpine setting, We stayed in a ground floor room, which was convenient as we were traveling with a dog. The view was still great, and we had direct access to the hotel's backyard. The food was good, with generous portions. Generally, there is enough parking, but during winter peak season, it might become an issue. Despite these minor inconveniences, our stay was enjoyable.

Traditionally furnished room, very comfortable, nice balcony with chairs and table. The evening meal in the hotel's Stuberl was superb, tasty traditional specialities. The waiter very friendly and helpful! Lovely gardens with wonderful view over Ettal monastery which is only a short walk away (down a stepped private path from the hotel) and well worth a visit.
