The hotel and its facilities were brand new, and extremely clean (very important for us!). There were so many nice things about the way the hotel was set up: there was a bar right at the entrance, where we could talk to the staff and other guests, and there was a hammock area upstairs where I spent a peaceful 2 hours during a rainstorm, reading a book and listening to the rain as it hit the roof, which was a very peaceful Caribbean experience. The wood art in and around the hotel was produced by a local artist - we could see him working on a new project directly on the beach in front of the hotel. Last, but certainly not least: the staff were absolutely lovely. Right from the beginning, they picked us up at Tortuguero dock, and after we got settled in, we had a get-to-know-you meeting with the manager where we planned out what we wanted to do during our stay, which they then organized for us. In general, they were very concerned about anything they could do to help make our stay as wonderful as possible. In general, you get the feeling that they like to work there and shared our excitement about the beauty of the nature around, the ocean and have a good sense of what the guests needs are. Although we only stayed 2 nights we were very sad to leave.

Super lovely small casa to stay over. The room was spacious, the beds comfy, a lovely terrace, a tap in the garden to clean your walking shoes if necessary. Delicous breakfast, nice small swimming pool to refresh after a hot day. And the most outstanding characteristic: the super friendly staff. They helped to organize all our trips and our transport to Puerto Viejo. Gerard eg is amazing.

The owner who was communicating with on this app was incredible. She helped me out so much. I got stuck in traffic due to a landslide and she guided and even found updates about it. The place is such a cute place. You can see crabs. Have hammocks around the property. Had many fans for the dorm which didn’t have ac. I couldn’t have breakfast because i left early. Great location. Walking distance to everything. They take credit card too.

Portuguese National Park is a wonder.

Portuguese National Park is a wonder. You can't get there by Car, there are no roads. Only by boat 1 hr up river or by plane. You are in the jungle with so many animals. I recommend staying in a lodge away from town, in the secondary forest area. Take a canal boat tour and enjoy the wild life. This is a must see in Costa Rica

I absolutely loved Tortuguero and wish my spanish was better...

I absolutely loved Tortuguero and wish my spanish was better, however, it was easy to do everything with English--I was amazed at how well everyone spoke it! My favorite tour was the early morning canoe tour I booked with Green Tours. It was so peaceful and my guide, Brandon, was excellent! There are some really good restaurants/bars that are reasonably priced. Overall, it was a good time and I'm really happy with how everything turned out. I recommend booking a place to stay ahead of time, as well as the boat ride and return. Book tours once you get to the village. All the local companies are about the same price and a great value! I would 100% love to come back with friends or a partner someday. PURA VIDA!

We arrived by accident on the day of TortuFest, when there was a carnival in the streets, lots of performers and lots of fun: 1.11., highly recommended. It's good to take a morning canoe tour — even if it's raining the whole time you get to see a lot and it's a nice experience — walk through the jaguar trail, and we've seen a bunch of animals on the night walk as well (including a pooping sloth). El Patio is a great restaurant for carribean food, but the little soda right at the docks was also quite nice.

We were not originally going to stop in Tortuguero during...

We were not originally going to stop in Tortuguero during our short stay in CR, but are so glad we did! It's not easy to get there, but the journey was most definitely part of the fun! We took a private boat from La Pavona (which cost the same as the public boat but offered to take us all the way to our hotel instead of the main Tortuguero dock). On our first night, we booked a turtle nesting tour from 8-10 pm and watched a momma turtle lay her eggs on the beach. It was incredible. We chose to eat at our hotel across the water instead of in town. It was easier that way. Besides the turtle nesting tour, we also took a hike in the national park with our children. There are other tours we could have taken, but we were satisfied with just watching the wildlife (monkeys) play at our hotel pool. On our boat trip back to La Pavona was memorable -- in that we saw many crocodiles along the river.

I really liked the town, which was tiny.

I really liked the town, which was tiny. We did eat there a couple of times and both times the food was great. I could happily have spent more time exploring the nature, and just chilling at our hotel.

The area is just beautiful. The nature is unique. Some take aways: 1 ) use private tours to see turtles, 2) take the “periferica local transportation to commute from tortuguero town to San Francisco ($3), 3) eat at El Patio downtown, 4) take tour to the canals 5) bring good mosquito repellent, 5) bring light rain ciat and rubber boats, 6) bring dark clothing to see the turtles ( non black or dark colirs are allowed)

Staff were helpful from before the trip and throughout. Breakfast was freshly served at a time of your choosing with options to suit everyone from local to continental choices - we were even provided with take away breakfast for the early morning when we left. Highlight was definitely sitting and watching the family of monkeys from the balcony outside the room. Location was great, near the beach and national park and centre of town.

Nice hotel with a garden and pool at the riverfront. We enjoyed the pool and the calmness of the rooms. Food in the evening was great and reasonably priced. (Menu for 18$) Tortugero was one of our most favourite stays in Costa Rica. We loved to see a turtle coming to the shore to lay eggs.

The room and bathroom were spacious the AC worked really well. The two girls at the reception were incredibly helpful with organising tours and transportation to and from Tortuguero. The hotel is in town but away from the chaos and 2 mins walk from the beach.

The buffet dinner and breakfast were the best thing about the hotel - home-cooked Costa Rican food, healthy and wholesome. The staff were all pleasant and helpful, and made a special effort to offer us vegetarian meals.
