A fabulous boutique oasis with a lovely pool area, superb comfortable covered seating areas all in a tropical garden with fruit trees. The Glamping rooms (3) are light, airy and very spacious with a huge bed and well-appointed en-suite bathroom. The staff will do absolutely anything for you, led by the excellent Manager, Javier. We met the Canadian owners who are great fun and have renovated the entire space with great taste and attention to detail.

Just what we wanted, quiet, residential feel. Villas were perfect for my family: adults in one studio; kids in a 2br w sofa futon. Rooms were exactly as described. If there was a sofa bed, there was a sofa bed. The pool was nice. Luis the manager attentive & fair. The community has a real authentic feel- beach is a 3 block walk down the street. Best food in this town!! love the bakery about 500 m from the property. You’ve got to find it! Actual bagels and jalapeño cheese croissants. Amazing coffee everywhere. Ask housekeepers to do your laundry 🧺 for $15US a medium-lg bag.

Where to start to describe how wonderful our stay was - the house is just fantastic : large, clean rooms, super decent (canadian/swiss made … as the owner is swiss) and the swimming pool is gorgeous - the host : daniel was just fabulous , giving tips, baking bread, sharing beach gear, telling stories, … the world would be a better place with more people like him - the location : playa potrero is a bit more quiet than the surrounding playas (depends on your liking off course) … 200m and you walk onto the beach If we revisit costa rica, Casa Papito will definitely be booked again

They've done a wonderful job with this property! This was our 8th accommodation on this trip to Costa Rica, and it had the best of all worlds. Quiet enough to feel remote, but connected to groceries, gas, and services in town. Fantastic A/C in the common space and both bedrooms. A thorough cleaning job, enough towels for a family of 4 (including pool towels), and a very well-equipped kitchen. The owners were so kind to accommodate early check-in so that our young daughters could get settled; they even brought them a high chair and kids' chairs, which they adored! The view from the pool is gorgeous and we appreciated the little outdoor gym, too. We watched the cleaning team wipe down outdoor railings and dust off loungers. They're clearly taking pride in keeping this place up. We would definitely stay again!

Potrero happens to be very centric: there are four beaches...

Potrero happens to be very centric: there are four beaches in a row northwards and dozens to the south, in few kilometers. That makes the town a good operating base. There are a lot of services and is far better organized than Santa Teresa or other beach towns. My preferred beach was Prieta. Also, there are supermarkets around, so you can buy the ingredients and cook by yourself, or visit restaurants. We visited different restaurants and concurred that the ceviche with maracuya sauce was the better (some restaurant in Las Catalinas $$$). Oceana serves good food ($$$$$, size is small, at the Flamingo Marina). Me Gusta (Italian cuisine $$$) had good pizza. El Reparito ($$$, mexican oriented - I loved the place) was tasteful, El Gallo Ronco ($$$) was good, as well. I found MarCosta seafood market well provided they gave nice attention. They also rent a floating deck in the Potrero bay or give boat tours.

I was in Potrero for 3 nights alone on business.

I was in Potrero for 3 nights alone on business. The location is quite and off the tourist map. There are a few local restaurants and bars, but not a lot going on. Its a great place to get away and relax, but pretty remote from all of the major destinations. There are other even more remote beaches just north of here that are worth visiting, so a few days here can be worth it.

It was a beautiful beach.

It was a beautiful beach. Not near as busy and crowded as Coco Beach or Tamarindo Beach. We were able to access the beach with a short walk from our Hotel. The sunsets from this beach are incredible.

Potrero is a charming and walkable beach town with plenty of dining options. While the beach itself was decent, it wasn’t our favorite—the sand is darker and the water less clear. We preferred Playa Conchal for snorkeling and Playa Danta or Dantita for swimming. That said, we appreciated Potrero’s more local feel, with a strong Tico presence, unlike the more tourist-heavy vibe of Playa Flamingo and Las Catalinas. Potrero’s central location makes it a great base for exploring nearby beaches. We especially recommend Hemingway’s on the beach—it’s family-friendly with fun activities like bean bag toss and a slackline. Our waiter, Joseph, was outstanding—knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. Don’t miss the beautiful sunset views from there!

We enjoyed the various towns and beaches located in the Potrero area. The restaurant selection was very good. Everyone was kind and helpful. It was nice to encounter local people and tourists enjoying the area. The area felt safe. Driving in the area requires the drivers full attention, skill and patience. We learned that it is a must to have transportation to fully enjoy h3 many beautiful opportunities in Potrero.

The BE Hotel is a bit out of the way but close to the center...

The BE Hotel is a bit out of the way but close to the center of Potrero. This town is lively, as there are stores and places to eat. There is also a school and a large sports field. You can see the working atmosphere here - there is construction work going on in many places. A little farther from the center on side streets you can admire beautiful villas, which are adjacent to modest houses. A few hundred meters behind the hotel you can meet grazing horses and cattle. Flowering shrubs and trees decorate it all. Our attention was drawn to the large number of free-roaming dogs of very gentle disposition. We did not once encounter aggression between them as well as towards us - they would come up and greet us in a friendly manner. From the BE hotel it is also a few hundred meters to Playa Penca. Here there is yellow sand and off-season perfect tranquility. During these two weeks, the number of people using this 750-meter beach varied from 6 (!!) to 60 people depending on the day.

La Quebrada was gorgeous, comfortable, and the pool was fabulous. The owner was very accomodating when we needed to change the rooming situation to fit our needs. The place is impeccably clean and the individual casitas superbly comfortable with quality beds and fun private outdoor showers. The best part: the small village within an easy walking distance is what Costa Rica used to be years ago. And the birdlife - getting up early, making coffee (provided) and listening & seeing the birds was a treat.

Lovely set up of rooms/villas in well kept gardens and a nice pool. The little bit of luxury we wanted for the end of our trip. It is near the beach but at a fairly busy junction, the road isn't an issue from the rooms. We could hear howler monkeys every morning. The bed was really big and the bathroom was lovely. I'd recommend paying that little bit extra to have the patio and glass sliding doors. There is a restaurant and 2 small supermarkets within walking distance.

A great place to stay. DJ, Tamara and Javier made us feel extremely welcome and helped us with tours, places to eat and anything else we asked. Lovely pool and bar and walkable to the beach and cafes. Ideal location to explore this area of Guanacaste. Family friendly and our 3 year old had a great time playing with the friendly dog and cat on site. Would stay again easily.
