Main thing for us was the Dutch couple who managed the Hotel, super friendly, knowledgeable, made you feel so relaxed and went that extra mile to make the hotel experience even better but it was also the entire setup that appealed to us, the fact that staying here you was contributing towards helping local children, the style of the hotel was like nothing else we had come across, the main building where reception/restaurant was so open, great views but so stylish with local arts dotted everywhere and beautiful local plants to make you feel relaxed, we loved the rooms set-up , just simple but stylish with a very eco orientated thought put into it and of course the view across Monteverde, the fact that the trees cut down where the plot was for the hotel, all the wood was recycled back into the building and it's furniture, finally the Breakfast, one if not the best we had on our entire Costa Rica journey, an original style dish of beans & rice, with other options which my wife & kid thoroughly enjoyed, washed down with fresh coffee & juices, also it was a short easy journey into town. The couple also helped us with the day to day excursions, sorting out & contacting the places, helping with travel if needed, just made it that much easier to have a great few days in Monteverde recommending what to do and the layout/distance to the places we chose to indulge in, highly recommend this place as not just a place to stay but a total experience to enter into

If you like cooler temperatures, rainy & windy mountains in...

If you like cooler temperatures, rainy & windy mountains in remote Costa Rica then this is for you. Its a unique experience to be that high up above sea level and theres plenty to do outside between coffee tours, ziplines & hikes. But in terms of the town itself, theres not a lot going on and its expensive but I guess thats what you pay for tranquility & remoteness. And if you're driving up there you better have a 4x4 or AWD vehicle because the majority of the roads up here are unpaved & windy AF. Spots to check out that made our trip: Don Juan Coffee Farm, the Butterfly Sanctuary, El Tigre Waterfalls, Kinkajou Night walk, 100% Aventura Ziplines for the longest Zipline in Latin America & lastly tree climbing at Finca Modelo. If you want to try authentic Costa Rican food (because hello why not!) skip out on the expensive restaurants and go to Pizzeria 3R y el Sazón de Mary - best part is that they're open late. Food was bomb! Overall, I wouldn't spend more than 2.5 days up here.

4-wheel drive recommended, but not essential. My six-year old particularly enjoyed the animal experiences: sloths, frogs, snakes and butterflies at the Selvatura Adventure Park (which was expensive but worth it - very knowledgeable guides) and also the Bat Jungle. My favourite experience was walking the trails in the Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve - very well marked and options for different levels of ability.

Loved the adventure parks (selvatura sloth rescue is a must!

Loved the adventure parks (selvatura sloth rescue is a must!) and area restaurants Bon appetit and taco taco. Chocolate and coffee tour also worthwhile. Night tours more insect and reptile focused than in other areas. Roads in the area are very narrow and twisty, hard for motion sickness travellers.

Great place for hikers.

Great place for hikers. Unfortunately most places you have to pay to enter and it's not cheap. But there are a few free places you can walk if you do your research. There is loads of stuff to do for everyone. Families and adventure junkies.

If you love the outdoors, go to Monteverde.

If you love the outdoors, go to Monteverde. We did a coffee/sugarcane/chocolate tour, a wildlife refuge tour, night time nature walk, zip lining, and a sloth experience. There were lots of different restaurants and we loved all of the ones we visited.

I stayed 5 nights in Monteverde because I was chasing...

I stayed 5 nights in Monteverde because I was chasing Quetzals. I stayed couple of nights right inside the Monteverde reserve and that was great as I could be the first person in the reserve. The Quetzals were nesting around March 23rd and I saw them everyday. I also like Selvatura ziplining and Hanging bridges (a quetzal pair was nesting there too). I did not like Curi Cancha at all - waste of time as the forest is not pretty. Their birding guide (I paid for him at Curi Cancha itself) was subpar also and was showing us videos on his phone and basically not showing much wildlife. I would not recommend wasting time or money at Curi Cancha. Head to Monteverde or Santa Elena instead.

Gloria, Marcelo and Julio all made us feel at home. There were delicious breakfasts served on our terrace, from which we even saw some toucans. The location was great, we were able to walk to Santa Elena. The room itself was unique with it's wooden interior. It was clean and comfortable, and had a microwave and fridge. Mayco was very helpful in booking tours whilst we were there, we enjoyed the Selvatura Adventure Park ziplines and would definitely recommend the tour of Monteverde cloud forest with Javier, he was a brilliant guide.

The overall atmosphere of the hotel was nice, room was spacious and nicely decorated, hosting family was pleasant. Restaurant serves decent food quality and good portion size at considerably cheap price. Location of the hotel is a bit further away from Santa Elena center however there is a shop literally 20 meters away aswell as other restaurants nearby. There is bus stops 100m away which takes you to Cloud Forest and surrounding towns.

Amazing hotel set in the most beautiful surroundings. The staff were so friendly and helpful, the private reserve is amazing and the distance to Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is also perfect for further tours. Loved the craft beer bar and watching the wildlife from the restaurant balcony.

Spacious room, well located and close to other restaurants so you don't have to eat at the hotel. Easy parking and very friendly staff. Not far to both cloud forests which frankly are the reason you are in Monteverde to start with. But you do need a car to get to them.
