San Gil is very turistic and influenced by that.
San Gil is very turistic and influenced by that. Excellent opportunities for recreation and extreme sports, but the horrid traffic can impact travel. The main route from Bogota' to Bucaramanga goes right through it and can really congest the streets. These are old "horse" cart roads in town and the traffic can be "impressive" and difficult to manage. Quaint charm with amenities, a commercial mall and plenty of food and drink around the central park.MichaelUnited States - 10Scored 10
San Gil as a town is not particularly interesting.
San Gil as a town is not particularly interesting. It's for the adventure activities that one comes. We went rafting on Río Suárez with Colombia Rafting Expediciones and I can only recommend them - professional, well-organised team that guides you through the Class 5 rapids while keeping safety always in mind.

The area around San Gil is great for just about everything.
The area around San Gil is great for just about everything. We had a car so we were able to tour the roads in and around San Gil and it is beautiful, mountainous country. The Cuevas del Vacas is a must see but not for the faint of heart ( we are part of the over 60 crowd and thoroughly enjoyed it)

Johanna and her family really knows how to make you feel at home. whatever you need they will sort you out, they helped me to book tours and gave me some good tips and idea as of what to do next. The facilities are always clean and the rooms are comfortable. the hostel is located just one block way from the main center where you can find good food and delicious coffee. I can’t recommend this place enough. 11/10(if I could) :p

The manager Joss is SO incredibly helpful and speaks excellent English which is super helpful when booking activities in the area. Alex and Joss went above and beyond for a friend from the hostel who left her phone at the bus terminal accidentally and they were able to retrieve it and get it back for her from San Gil to Santa Marta… they are wonderful.
