Perfect Gubei Water Town Stay! This boutique villa was amazing—clean, cozy, and just steps from the scenic area. Loved the comfy room, great amenities (parking, pet-friendly!), and lovely views. The host was helpful too. Highly recommend!

We were extremely happy with our decision to stay at this lovely family-run accommodation. The hosts were exceptionally kind and helpful. We were welcomed with warm smiles and a basket of fresh fruit, and on the day of our departure—when we were running a little late—they even offered us a free ride to the bus station. Such genuine kindness truly made our stay special. Our room was spotless, beautifully decorated, cozy, and perfect for a good night’s sleep. The beds were very sturdy and comfortable. The whole place has a peaceful family-home atmosphere, and it’s clear that the owners take great pride in keeping everything clean, comfortable, and welcoming. The property is set in a quiet little village with a couple of nice family-run restaurants just a short walk away. It’s about a 20-minute walk to Beijing Wtown and the bus station along a quiet paved path by the river. The walk is lovely, with beautiful nature views, and there’s even a small riverside park with towers and sculptures that light up beautifully in the evenings—great for photos. If you prefer not to walk, there are plenty of Didi drivers available at any time, and the ride to the accommodation costs only 10–14 RMB. For travelers coming from Beijing, I highly recommend taking the direct bus, which costs 48 RMB per person and takes around two hours to reach the Water Town Bus Station (cash only). The bus leaves from Dongzhimen Outer Bus Station (东直门外) at 09:00 and 13:00, and returns from Water Town at 12:00 and 17:00. Just wait beside the brown signboard that lists all departure times. Beijing Wtown itself is absolutely stunning—full of canals, traditional architecture, small cafés, restaurants, and even boat rides that glide through the waterways, making the whole place feel like a fairytale village. In the evening, when the lights come on, the scenery becomes truly magical. At 20:40 there is a drone show with the illuminated Great Wall in the background, which is unforgettable.

The host and the housekeeper were incredibly informative. The house keeper communicated through translation but her warmth and friendliness needed no translation and we were looked after incredibly well. Between them, they organised all our transport, advised us on the best places to visit and the housekeeper cooked us the most delicious breakfast which fortified us to do a 2.5 hour hike on the Great Wall of China. I would stay here every time if I was wanting to visit the wall and even just as a beautiful place to relax.

Excellent organisation by the host ( who has a good english) to have the most wonderful Great Wall experience. He did everything for us ( drives, tickets, drop us for the sunrise, uncrowded place).

I cannot recommend this property enough. The family who run the property were so helpful, kind and generous. They went out of their way to help us- booking transport and catering meals, making recommendations for our trip. To get here, we took the bus from Beijing to Gubeikou Water town and stayed 2 nights here, then took the train from Gubeikou back to Beijing. The couple cooked us vegetarian dinner, breakfast and made us packed lunches for our day hike along the wall. Delicious homemade Chinese food! The property is so conveniently located to access three parts of the Great Wall: Pandong is 5mins walk, Jinshaling is 20-30mins by car and Gubeikou water town is 15mins by car. The hosts helped us organise transport to the property and plan our visit to the wall. Translation was no problem- we used WeChat translate and Google translate to communicate. And we used AliPay to pay for everything while we were there. There was a fussball table, scooters and skateboard toys for our daughter to play on whilst we were at the property too.

It was pretty close to gobei water town, like 5 minutes walking.
