My stay at Cradle Mountain Hotel was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment I arrived, I felt enveloped by the serene beauty of the landscape, a world where nature and comfort exist in perfect harmony. The hotel itself is an absolute gem – every detail has been thoughtfully curated to ensure a flawless experience. The rooms are spacious, cozy, and elegant, with large windows that frame the breathtaking views outside. Waking up to the sight of the mist-laden mountains and hearing the soft rustle of trees was like waking up in a dream. A special mention goes to Megan at the reception, whose warm and genuine welcome made me feel right at home. Her attention to detail and her eagerness to assist with every need ensured my stay was seamless from start to finish. The hospitality at the Bar and the restaurant was equally exceptional – the staff were friendly, attentive, and made dining a truly memorable experience, whether it was the hearty meals or the perfectly crafted drinks. I also want to extend my appreciation to the lovely lady at the gallery inside the hotel. She had such a passion for the art and the local culture, and her warmth and knowledge made exploring the gallery an enriching and delightful experience. But it’s the surrounding beauty that truly leaves one speechless. The hotel feels like it’s been gently placed in the embrace of nature. The towering peaks of Cradle Mountain loom in the distance, majestic and awe-inspiring, while the nearby forests and clear lakes glimmer like poetry in motion. The trails that snake through this untouched wilderness are like passages into another world, where time slows and the soul finds peace in the quiet dance of the wilderness. Every aspect of my stay was perfect – from the delicious meals to the cozy fireplace that invited deep relaxation. Cradle Mountain Hotel is more than a place to stay; it’s a sanctuary for the soul, a retreat into nature’s finest masterpiece.

We loved our stay and were so happy that we chose this quaint, private lodging option as it was surrounded by lovely forest and so much more affordable than the basic cabins at more posh resorts. It was less than 1/2 hour drive to Cradle Mountain hiking area but watch for animals at dusk - they are everywhere :) We stayed in the Quoll cabin and loved having two tables/chair set ups outside the main door and large window. Each day we were greeted by pademelons and a chorus of song birds. The cabin was well stocked, bedding super comfortable and the whirlpool bath / hottub was amazing after completing a long hike. The heating system was super efficient. The kitchen (equipped with a microwave and small fridge) was outfitted with everything we needed for simple meals. Check in process was super easy and there are a couple of new cafes on the corner offering amazing coffee at Blue Tree Gallery which also features a lovely array of local artisan products. The staff at nearby Cradle Gateway Cafe were super friendly but the breakfast sandwich and coffee was quite basic - they do offer dinner for pickup which is a nice option.

This is a great area for hiking and bushwalking.

This is a great area for hiking and bushwalking. Be sure to check the weather before you go, as it can be very cold—even in summer. When we visited on Christmas Day, it was actually snowing, despite it being summertime in Australia. Make sure you dress warmly and bring appropriate layers. The area is quite open, so the wind can be very strong, although it eases when you pass through forested sections. The tracks vary, with some being man-made and others more natural, which can make certain sections challenging. Many of the tracks can also be quite wet, so waterproof hiking boots are highly recommended. There are several track options available, depending on whether you’re visiting for the day or planning to camp. The scenery is incredibly natural and beautiful, and we even spotted a few wombats along the way. Access to the tracks requires purchasing a shuttle bus ticket, and you’ll also need a Tasmania National Parks Pass.

We could have stayed another night to get another walk in, but we were on a tight timeframe to visit Tasmania. We ate at the Discovery Resort lodge both in teh restauarnt and had a takeaway the following evening. We also ate at the Peppers hotel bistro after a long walk. The shuttle bus is very helpful getting you in and out of the walks and runs like closkwork. Only a 15 minute wait between shuttles. We visisted the Tasmania Devil sanctuary which was good value for a couple of hours side trip.

We trekked the iconic Dove Lake circuit.

We trekked the iconic Dove Lake circuit. The trail was quite nice, but the lake and mountain itself are not particularly scenic in a “world context” (i.e., compared with sites in New Zealand, the Alps, Rocky Mountain National Park, etc). However if you go to Tasmania, this is considered a top sight. In good weather, Cradle Mountain is reflected in Dove Lake, but the water was choppy and the skies were cloudy on our visit, so we did not experience this. We did enjoy the Tasmanian Devil feeding sessions at Devils@Cradle. The conservationist was super knowledgeable and engaging, and we learned a lot! They have about 10 Devils and some spotted quokkas in the program.

Cradle Mountain is an amazing place.

Cradle Mountain is an amazing place. The scenery was amazing and with rain over the previous weeks there was lots of water flowing over various water falls. My wife and I were engaged at cradle many years ago. We now live in Tassie. Our favourite spot is a combination of Dove Lake walk and Marions Lookout. Getting around is easy with busses leaving from the visitors centre to the dove lake centre. There is nothing that we would change on our trip given that it was only a 2 night stop over. But as with most times we leave, we would always like to stay there longer next time.

The selection of walk was excellent.

The selection of walk was excellent. Signage for access to some of the walk was not optimal. There needs to be a display of weather information for the day, which walks are closed and more prominent information on dress attire.

The timing of our trip and very little crowd was the best part. Having pretty much Dove lake to ourselves was amazing. The weather was a bit so so but it’s was all prt of the experience. It’s an amazing, beautiful place. A must is to do the dove lake circuit and the Roony Creek to Dove lake. Walks are fairly easy and 80% on boardwalks. Marion’s lookout is a definite for next trip. Don’t forget to also do Devils @ cradle for amazing wildlife experience

Located close to Cradle Mountain Visitors Centre - we walked there very easy. Cabins were new, clean and we had all we needed for our stay. Easy parking and the staff were great. I left an item behind and when I rang them they quickly located it and gave me options as to how I could get it back - really appreciated the kindness and service.

Free shuttle bus to connect to the cradle mountain shuttle bus. Very convenient. Indoor spa tub can help you recover from the trails. Warm fireplace keeps you warm and the balcony will have wild animals and easy to see the stars. The hotel itself has a lot of trails from 10minutes to 1 hour. The breakfast is very good.

We loved our stay at Cradle Mountain Hotel. All of the staff were so friendly and attentive. The buffet breakfast was delicious. Our room was exceptionally clean and cozy, and we also throughly enjoyed sitting by the wood fire in the library/common area near our room. We would definitely stay again.
