FAQs about hotels in Canberra

Culture, Politics and Military Mix

A popular quiz question is: what’s the capital of Australia? If you answered Sydney or Melbourne then it’s time to discover the real answer – Canberra. With Parliament House at its core, Canberra fans out across both sides of Lake Burley Griffin to reveal a diverse mix of museums, restaurants and bars filled with curious tourists, political persons and public servants.

Canberra was created as a solution to Australia’s 2 largest cities squabbling over the right to become the national capital. The Limestone Plains region in New South Wales was chosen as the site for present day Canberra. It was a good choice for nature lovers as it is surrounded by bushland, mountain ranges and, more recently, wineries.

The National Gallery, National Museum and National Library of Australia highlight Canberra’s cultural riches. Other notable institutions to visit are the High Court of Australia and the National Film and Sound Archive that stockpiles a collection of Australia’s early radio, television and film history.

The military also plays a significant role here with many training facilities for the army such as the Australian Defence Force Academy. An unforgettable experience is attending the Anzac Day Dawn service at The Australian War Memorial.

Australia’s cultural capital with a political punch has many hotels, motels and apartments on Booking.com for that city trip, business jaunt or family holiday.

I wanted to give feedback on the staff member at reception who helped me at 10.30pm on Christmas Eve. He was really kind, helpful and pleasant. He went out of his way to help me and I could not have asked for more. He was amazing and gave me the assistance I needed.

Everything is so close! So much to do and see. Surrounded by beautiful countryside. Unfortunately when it's hot it's very hot! We were there in summer when a heatwave hit with a strong hot wind. It made the ropes course even more challenging. Lots to do indoors in the air conditioning though, such as the Questacon science centre (fantastic), the Mint, the War Memorial, etc. Everyone should visit our national capital!

Canberra had so many exciting things to do for my ten year old granddaughter. Questacon was awesome for myself as well. Many fun things to do which we don’t have here in griffith nsw lots of great restaurants to eat in. Food was lovely in the hotel. We used Google maps to get around and it was so easy. We went ice skating in phillip Questacon and bounce which is a lot of fun on trampolines. Go carting and lots of shopping

Great places to eat at much better value than, say ,in Sydney.. Getting around by car can be challenging for fist time visitors because of the road layout using circuits, very very wide streets and the lack of distinctive landmarks in some areas. The public institutions like the galleries are first rate.

Quality facilities, acceptable cleanness and really good location. Love the bed. And the lounge / library area which provides microwave. Good value for money. I lived in Kingston before, now living in Sydney and visiting for autumn season. Tried hotel hotel (now ovolo), Hyatt, Koorajong and some serviced apt, this one rates at top - it’s my first time living in this hotel and will come back.

Excellent location five minutes' walk to Civic (CBD), with cafes and restaurants nearby. Easy parking in basement (there's a fee for parking but that is pretty common in central Canberra). Spacious, clean room. Upper floors away from Northbourne Avenue have the quietest rooms. It's not the cheapest hotel in town but it's the one we keep returning to.
