A lush tropical paradise surrounded by the Coral Sea
Located in North Queensland, Cairns is an energetic city with lush, tropic surroundings. It is home to one of Mother Nature’s most prized creations, the offshore Great Barrier Reef. It is a haven for diving, snorkelling and adventure enthusiasts, with millions of visitors from around the globe converging on this tropical nirvana.
Several tour and charter boats depart from Cairns Pier to the Great Barrier Reef daily and Port Douglas. Buses from Cairns Central Station and the Freshwater Connection Station take tourists to the picturesque and tranquil Atherton Tablelands and Daintree National Park. Cairns Lagoon is a large man-made inlet overlooking the Coral Sea and is popular for swimming, picnics, a BBQ and sunbathing.
Cairns has shopping malls, cinema complexes and numerous cafés, eateries, restaurants, and traditional Australian pubs. A popular destination for backpackers, it has many bars, nightclubs and hostels scattered around Cairns Boulevard.
Atractions such as Cairns Flecker Botanic Gardens, Cairns Rainforest Dome and Skyway Rainforest Cableway are easily accessible from the city. Cairns International Airport offers direct access to Brisbane, Mackay, Sydney, and Darwin. Booking.com has a number of hostels, resorts and hotels in Cairns and Queensland.
We went at the start of the dry season. The weather was very warm but still humid.
Cairns central has great public facilities.
The swimming lagoon is fantastic for all ages and has surf lifesavers in attendance. BBQ cookers all along the Esplanade, excellent playgrounds.
Muddy Waters in particular, the kids went crazy.
Of course you go for the reef trips and the train trip and the Skyrail up to Kuranda village. A lovely day out in beautiful rainforest.
Port Douglas and Mossman are a drive north if you have the time, they are another must see in this scenic part of north Queensland.
A drive up onto the Tablelands opens up a different part of the area. Natural and historical attractions. It's worth the drive.

A worn and sadly lacking site.
A worn and sadly lacking site. It has all the hallmarks of investors who rake in the money but don't spend any money or maintenance and improvements. They could raise their star rating if they cared to invest in renovation., The lady at the front desk was very friendly;y. What a shame she has to represent such a sad venue.

The environment in general is the thing I liked the most.
The environment in general is the thing I liked the most.
There is little opportunity to interact with people outside of those in our circle of the delegation, including the hosts and those slotted in the program, during that trip. I would like to see more people to people interaction.

Excellent location.
Excellent location. You may not need a rented car if you stay in the central location. We stayed here for 5 days. Went to Great Barrier Reef, Green Island, Used the sky rail to go to Kurandra and came back by Scenic Rail. Snorkling at both Green Island and Great Barrier Reef was too good.

Brilliant clean pool in apartment.
Brilliant clean pool in apartment. We did Kuranda tour the train to the top of mountain and the cable car over the rainforest/ Green Island tour, where we enjoyed the glass bottom boat, snorkelling, and seeing the large crocodile that was recovering from an injury on the island. We also did Daintree crocodile river tour and we saw 3 crocodiles, went swiming in Rossman Gorge. The tours were fantastic and so was Cairns, we had the holiday of a life time. Thankyou to everyone for the wonderful tours.

I wasn't too keen, it was a humid sweatbox and I didn't feel particularly safe at night walking the streets. Plenty to do activity wise during the day. The Croc Bar was the best bit. $10 steak & fires. Night market is just tat and the food places within the night market aren't great. Decent-ish night-life and the drinks are cheaper than the big city's.
Excellent location very central only minutes from the city center or to the esplanade, walking distance to several eateries, bottleshop etc . 10 minute drive to the Cairns Domestic/International Airport. Set a street back from the main highway so no road noise. These Self contained units are perfect for a holiday and are well equipped with functional kitchen, full size fridge, cooking facilities and laundry. Gated premises offering secure parking for your vehicle. Hosts John and Noutekh where lovely. We will certainly be returning.
The studio style room was a large modern hotel room/apartrmmet that was comfortable, clean and had a lovely view of the esplanade and water. The staff were attentive and ordered my taxi to the airport for me( day prior uber and taxi delays) so they assisted me. I had to check out at 10.00am and they safely stored my luggage for me and allowed me the luxury of a shower prior to my flight at 8pm that night. Location is approximatley 1.5 blocks away from the main restaurants along the esplanade - but it proves for a quiet stay.
the property was great! Check in was quick and simple and the staff were friendly. We had a superior room and it was lovely, nice little view of the Cairns Esplanade and water. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. We only stayed as an added overnight stay before our flight as our flights were changed and we are glad we booked with pacific hotel cairns for the quick stop over. We had our 4 month old baby and the staff were wonderful and had a portacot ready for us in our room.
We stayed with the lovely couple in Cairns and can heavily recommend booking your stay with them. You have your own apartment with a cute kitchen with most of the essentials (and then some). Cozy feeling of summer cabin from back home.
The house is a short walk / drive away from the center of town. Peaceful and cute place to stay, gentle and cute dog next door and very friendly couple to share travel tips and a bit of chat. Would visit again and so should you!
The included breakfast was ample. Toast, pancakes and cereals. There was also an option to pay extra for a cooked breakfast, which we didn't require. The room was spacious, comfortable, clean and had the additional convenience of a microwave. The balcony was also an unexpected bonus and much appreciated. The location to the city center and bus/train terminals/stops couldn't have been better-only a 15 minute leisurely stroll to Cairns Central.
On the Esplanade and overlooking the (free) public swimming pool, small public park between hotel and seafront proper. Handy balcony (for all guests but not at all busy) next to our room. Great view from the rooftop bar. Walking distance to everything in Cairns proper. Sockets (USB & proper) near the bed. Staff were very understanding when we needed to leave a day early because of an approaching cyclone.
Enjoyed our stay at this very comfortable & cute property. Photos are accurate and bed is soft. Instructions to access property were clear. Location is good - short drive to town and airport. The basic breakfast they left in the fridge was a very nice bonus too! Perfect stopover for our one night in Cairns.
I like the convenience of the central Cairns CBD location. Just one block away from the ocean, walking distance to shops, cafes & restaurants.
The beds are very comfy and the rooms are clean and modern. Staff are friendly & helpful!
This hotel is quite new, only a couple of years old...opened late 2019.
Loved the 3 pools, the balcony overlooking the pool was a great view. The apartments were a 15 minute walk to the Esplanade however that wasn't an issue, we could Ubers if we didn't want to walk that distance. Very close to Cairns Central shopping centre and great value. I would stay again.
Excellent location, G level doors open on the Esplanade which is the most happening street in Cairns. All the apartments have a lovely sea view. Compact apartment with a nice balcony. Walter helped us with our check out and was helpful enough in booking a maxi cab for us on our departure.
Awesome apartment in a top location (direct road to Airport) as well as walikg distance to main centre and Esplanade. Buster makes the stay so more homely with morning and afternoon pats 🥰😘 definitely my new favourite place to stay in Cairns.
I liked the fact that the hotel was on the bus route for great transportation into Cairns City.
I liked that I booked through booking.com for a cheaper rate.
I liked that the staff where fantastic and doing there best to provide comfort.
The location of the hotel was perfect, so close to Cairns centre, the marina and the Esplanade.
The beds are soooo comfy!! Slept better than ever every night.
The staff were so friendly, so eager to please and help.
Location is amazing and can't be beat! Mere steps to the esplanade and lagoon (a man made wading pool). Sun rise right outside the bay windows! Apartment is well equipped and comfortable for a family of 4.
Looking for an affordable but nice place to stay? The Palm Royale is not in central Cairns, but is right next to the Raintrees bus terminal, which can get you all over the city in minutes.
Great hotel in an amazing location on the Esplanade and next door to the night markets. Very comfortable and modern rooms. Great roof top bar and restaurant too. Highly recommend!
Older style apartments located a distance away from the esplanade and the city centre. Unit was clean and reasonably comfortable. Manager was friendly and helpful.
