Very friendly staff and a very nicely designed and equipped room. There is a great restaurant where you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner, good drinks, and amazing people. The restaurant is designed in AVIA style as well as the room (the room touch is more elegant). The place is very original and it is a great stopover on your journey. We felt very welcomed there.

The apartment has everything you need to spend several days in comfort, with kitchen equipment and appliances provided to prepare anything from breakfast to gourmet meals. Additional nice features are the huge and luxurious bathroom and the convenient parking directly across the road. The hostess is very helpful and makes sure that you have a pleasant stay. If you want to visit major sights and towns in the Waldviertel area, then this is the perfect central location to head out for day trips. This was my third time staying at Spitaler apartments, including twice with my wife and daughter, and we are looking forward to booking here again whenever we visit the area. We highly recommend it!

If you want to visit the upper Waldviertel region, Gmünd is an excellent base. It offers good transport links to nearby small towns with well-restored historical buildings. There are also many opportunities for hiking (Blockheide) and swimming in numerous moorland pools.

Formerly a very important and prosperous border, administrative, rail, commercial, and shopping town with a large catchment area and significant importance for the entire surrounding region. The loss of importance due to decades of a "dead zone" that halved its catchment area continues to have an impact. The very relaxing and beautiful wooded surroundings with their cool, damp climate make the dry, hot summers bearable.

Small, pretty town center, excellent food at the "Hopferl" inn, very good ice cream parlor on the town square ("Gmünder Eisplatzl"), beautiful thermal baths with a natural bathing lake ("Sole Felsen Bad"), geologically impressive "Blockheide Nature Park" on the outskirts of town

Wonderful city.

Wonderful city. Very good food (especially the poppy seed cakes), very much worth seeing (castle, Czech side, Blockheide, Backhausen Colony). Not to forget the Waldviertel Railway... absolutely worth a trip! And the brine rock bath... like a vacation.

A beautiful town center with two excellent inns.

A beautiful town center with two excellent inns. Ideal for hikes in the surrounding area, for example to the Blockeheide heath, and excursions to nearby destinations such as the beer-brewing town of Weitra with its castle, Heidenreichstein Castle, Horn, and the Kamptal valley. Zwettl Abbey is also worth a visit. A ride on the historic steam train between Gmünd and Groß Gerungs is highly recommended.
