It is a wonderful location, worth exploring.

It is a wonderful location, worth exploring. There are so many things to do. The only drawback is the long journey to go there from the Tirana, the capital of Albania. I would recommend travelling through Kosovo as there are many places for stopover on the way to Valbona, including Prizren, Gjakova and Decan. Definitely going back.

Beautiful nature, lots of hiking trails.

Beautiful nature, lots of hiking trails. The only problem we faced during staying in this area was food quality. Unfortunately, we got food poisoning from one of the restaurants and it seems to be a know problem. So either check the most recent reviews before eating out or bring your own food.

The views going into the National Park and once you arrive...

The views going into the National Park and once you arrive are breathtaking. It's a very raw kind of beauty. There are multiple hikes that can be done in Valbone, with different durations, however marking of the paths is not very consistent. We would recommend proper hiking gear due to there being lacking infrastructure, like missing bridges to cross the river/streams or missing fences and hand rails in steeper parts of the trail. We mainly stayed and ate at our hotel, Hotel Margjeka, which was a great place with really good food.

Valbona is primarily a jumping off point for hikes and treks...

Valbona is primarily a jumping off point for hikes and treks into the surrounding mountains. It offers stunning views, some good hiking, plenty of accommodation options, but not much else. There is a tiny market (more of a booth) but if you don't want to be eating at restaurants or may want to bring snacks for the trail, stock up before heading for Valbona (likely in Shkoder). Also be sure to stock up on cash (lek or euro) as few (if any) places here accept cards and there are no ATMs. To get to Valbona from Shkoder I highly recommend the Komani ferry ride.

The scenery is among the world's best.

The scenery is among the world's best. The Albanian people are naturally very hospitable. The opportunities for hiking are spectacular. If you want to discover traditional Albanian food, Valbone gives excellent examples of the northern cuisine.
