Very cleaned properties in the heart of the city, everything was very close by, when we arrived we were welcomed by one friendly lady who gave a quick tour of the neighborhood and made some recommendations based on our likings. The best hotel i have stayed in Albania! -Starting from the check-in that was really easy and smooth ! They have used smart technology which makes everything easier and simple. - This hotel is in the city centre so the location is perfect ! Everything is in walkable distance . There are plenty of bars and restaurants next to the hotel .Also the hotel is brand NEW and very very beautiful! -The rooms are really beautiful and spacious and they have everything you need . The bed was really comfortable and we had a good and quite night sleep. If you are staying in Shkoder choose this hotel and you will thank me ! Highly recommended 100% !

I always look the the reviews when looking at where to stay, and am never exactly sure what to think about a newish hotel that has a really high rating. But The Roots more than lived up the rating that they have. I loved everything about my stay. Originally I booked for 2 nights, but enjoyed Shkoder so much that I extended for another night, and didn’t think twice about staying put at The Roots. When first dropped off in the street were the hotel is located it felt a bit quite and out of the way, but I soon discovered that it is only a 3 minute stroll to the pedonale which actually makes it super central and yet away from noise and traffic. The room was excellent. All of the hotel was located on the 1 floor. As the hotel is quite recent, all of the fixtures and furniture were fresh and clean. The room was quite spacious with more than enough room to move around the bed and baggage with ease. The bed was delightfully comfortable; the perfect mix of support with softness. There was a small terrace/ balcony off each room which I didn’t utilize as it was quite cold, but can imagine it would be a nice place to sit in warmer weather and enjoy a quiet drink. The staff were super helpful; Badr was very friendly and gave excellent advice and help in getting me on a day trip to Koman Lake and Shala River (tip- if you go to either of these places and it is cool in Shkoder, it will be really cold on the river- bring warm clothes for the boat!), as well as helping with taxis, local knowledge and plans for further travel. I loved Shkoder and I hope to return someday. And if I do it will be a no-brainer that I will book a room at The Roots.

This time I saw Shkodra with different eyes.

This time I saw Shkodra with different eyes. The city’s diversity of people and cultural mix stood out strongly, and over the weekend the lively atmosphere of parties gave it an energetic spirit. What touched me most, however, were the Catholic churches scattered around the city. Stepping into them gave me a profound sense of spirituality and peace, balancing the vibrant social scene outside. Shkodra truly holds a unique charm – a place where culture, celebration, and spirituality come together beautifully.

Reviews we read of Shkoder said it's a university town with lots of biking. Not sure what those reviewers were writing about, but there weren't many bike friendly areas and the town was not as vibrant as we expected. We did spend some time in the Shiroka area on the lake a 10 minute or so drive from Shkoder and that was very nice - good restaurants and lake activities. We also went to the mountains and stayed in Theth, which was wonderful and highly recommended.

Shkoder is a lovely city with great views, food and nice...

Shkoder is a lovely city with great views, food and nice accommodation facilities. It's a safe place for families and youths with lots of activities around. In particular, the main city area near the beautiful Mosque is an absolute must for awesome food and shopping.

The approach road is currently under construction which...

The approach road is currently under construction which makes for an interesting drive, but the location tucked away alongside the border with Montenagro makes the effort worthwhile. We even walked into Montenagro (45minutes) for lunch!

I had luck to stay by Rina and Tim. They are the best host, I have ever known sofar. Rina gave me good advices for my 2 day trips in Shkoder and further trips in Albania. She also booked the bus tickets for me to Theth. For the trip to Theth in the early morning, she prepared a great breakfast box for us to go. Rana and Tim have a so sweet dog and a cat. In short, the hosts were very kind and helpful. The accomadation was lovely. The breakfast was excelent. Highly recomended!

Here’s When we arrived at the location, we found out that the hotel has not been operating for the past two months and has been turned into a police station. The Albanian government took over the hotel and converted it into a police station instead of a hotel. After we got there, I saw that someone had sent me a message a few hours earlier, saying that due to a sewage system issue, they were unilaterally canceling our reservation.

Great stay at this nice hotel! It is about 10 minutes walk from the city centre, but 9 minutes of the walk is on a street with multiple bars, restaurants and shops. The hotel room was beatifully decorated and very clean. We had a nice mountain view from the balcony. The homemade breakfast was the best we had during our stay in Albania. We will highly recommend this hotel. You get high value for money.
