We had no trouble parking a regular-sized Japanese cat at the designated parking spot in front of the house. As a typical traditional house, it is poorly insulated and may take a while to warm up on cold days but there is AC in several rooms and other types of room heaters are available as well. The bathtub is amazing and even supports reheating the water so that it can easily be used by several people consecutively. For exploring the surrounding area, a car is highly recommended.

Lodge Tenjin is a 20-minute drive from JR Minakami Station, and free pick-up shuttles are available when requested at time of booking. Okutone Snow Park is a 10-minute drive away, while Houdaiji Ski Resort is within a 20-minute drive. The lodge itself is great. I had a nice room with a balcony overlooking the mountains and the stream nearby. Easily reached by car or by a local bus. Lots to do nearby, from visiting the deepest train station in Japan to going on hikes. All in all I had a great stay. Big thanks to the host for making me feel so welcomed.
