I had the opposite experience with this place. The room was much more spacious than I had imagined, and really tastefully decorated. So comfortable and cosy. All the staff members were really kind and welcoming, including the couple that does the coffee and breakfast, both of which were delicious. The common area is also really nice and cosy. I will definitively choose this place again if I revisit Onomichi <3

This recently renovated apartment is located 700 metres from Itsukushima Shrine and 1.1 km from Daisho-in Temple. The property is non-smoking and is set less than 1 km from Momijidani Park. One of the absolute highlights of our time in Japan. The house is a beautifully restored ryokan with excellent modern facilities, on a quiet street just a 5 minute walk from central Miyajimacho. Our host was incredibly generous and accommodating, greeting us with tea and treats and recommendations. She made us feel very welcome. As a base for our hike of Mt Misen, it was perfect. Miyajima is a busy place for daytrippers from Hiroshima, so staying overnight gave us the chance to see the island practically deserted in the morning and evening hours: a perfect way to see Itsukushima Shrine and Daisho-in Temple earlier in the day, before the crowds arrive, and even to wander out at low tide after dark to touch the base of the great, "floating" torii gate. Highly, highly recommend Shintatsuan as a place to stay!
