Small (about 14 rooms), modern, hotel in a good location for visiting various places e.g. Catarata Uvita, Nauyaca Waterfalls, Parque Nacional Marino Ballena, Hacienda Baru Wildlife Refuge. Many evening dining out options in the local vicinity, although the hotel owner told us there are plans to offer an evening meal option at Ballena Rey very soon. We had room 12: good balcony space, with 2 armchairs, small table top and 2 stalls, cacti at each end of the balcony, ceiling fan; the open plan kitchen and living room area was spacious, with air-conditioning and ceiling fan, 2 armchairs, TV, table and 2 chairs and sufficiently equipped kitchen (though 2 rings for cooking would be preferable to the one ring provided) and good-sized fridge/freezer; spacious shower room with hot water (some of the places we stayed at during our 31 night trip didn't have hot water); bedroom - reasonably comfortable bed, hanging and shelf storage space, air-conditioning and ceiling fan, one bedside table. Very good buffet breakfast - the breakfast ladies did a great job and it was lovely to be able to choose what you wanted, how much you wanted, in what order etc. Very good cleaning service provided in the room and in the hotel grounds. Lovely pool, which we made good use of. And the staff were all very friendly! We really enjoyed our stay at Ballena Rey and were sorry to leave.

What was exceptional was how out of their way they went to make my stay above and beyond. My tours and transfers were organised at the last minute on my request and they always ensured I was taken care of. Led by a husband and wife team, everyone works together feeling like a family, and that’s what this hotel feels like: like you’re hosted by a family. You really feel guided, comfortable and safe. I thought it was exceptionally kind that my taxi driver was given a cup of coffee after a long journey. The service far exceeds what I experienced at other hotels. The hotel is new so the facilities are great and the rooms are designed in a clever and efficient way that ensures a very spacious bathroom. The bed is comfortable, everything is very clean: spotless. There’s also lots of space for co-working etc. Monteverde is exceptionally beautiful and the hotel is located in the town/village but all the activities aren’t far at all so it really is a great location. All in all I loved my stay, my expectations were far exceeded and I think everyone should stay in this hotel, you’re sure to have a wonderful experience. The accommodation offers room service, a tour desk and currency exchange for guests. We had a wonderful 2 night stay at Hotel Bamboo. Giselle (sorry if this is incorrect spelling) was an amazing host. Always making sure we had everything we needed and serving us a hot tico breakfast plus fruit, coffee & juice both days. Wifi & AC was very good, pool was small but nice to cool down and sit beside to read our books. Bed was very comfortable, room was clean. Good parking out front which is very close to the rooms. Easy 10 minute walk to town & beach. We would definitely stay here again!

Good and large bed, silent and good A/C, everything very clean, nice breakfast, nice pool, close to nice restaurant and Matapalo beach, saw a lot of red macaws and other birds around the accomodation and even a sloth in the tree next to the accomodation (learned from the owner his name is Fred). Super friendly and flexible owners. Very nice stay.

The layout of the container apartment was great, the bed was extremely comfortable, and the view was gorgeous! We enjoyed sitting on the rockers on our private deck looking across the valley.
