Staying at El Albergue Ollantaytambo was genuinely one of the best decisions we made on the trip, hands down. First off, the location is perfect. Ollantaytambo itself is a fascinating town with a history to match—it’s the only one still using the Inca grid system! Plus, it offers two great, fun treks: the ruins and the granaries. But the real boon is its position right AT the station, making it the ultimate base for Machu Picchu. Getting up a couple of hours earlier than everyone else for the trek is great, but there's nothing better than coming back and immediately checking in instead of having to deal with another grueling 2-4 hour bus ride back to Cusco. It's also much more comfortable being at 9,500 ft instead of the 11,500 ft elevation of Cusco. Beyond the incredible convenience, El Albergue is simply an exceptional hotel in its own right. The service is beyond reproach; everyone on the property was so incredibly friendly and attentive. It truly makes the entire experience. The rooms are impeccably designed and wonderfully comfortable. I have to specifically shout out the gorgeous art throughout the rooms and common areas—it’s stunning, and seemingly much of it is from the proprietor, Wendy Weeks. The on-site amenities are another huge plus. The restaurant has exceptional food, and breakfast starts early (6 a.m.) with a great variety. You absolutely MUST book the wonderful Pachamanca lunch beforehand. They also have a local coffee roastery and a distillery right there; we had a great tour at both and really enjoyed the products, especially the Matacuy. Oh, and there are the most adorable dogs on the property, too! Overall, El Albergue was one of our favorite stays in Peru. We had a great time and are genuinely looking forward to coming back.

Edith and Stijn are brilliant hosts who cannot do enough for you. Were extremely helpful in sorting out medical support for our son after he fell ill after the Machu Picchu trek, including driving him to the medical centre. The accommodation is clean and simple with hot showers, comfortable bed and a lovely breakfast. Good location with less than 10minute walk from the main square. Ollantaytambo is a beautiful town with superb ruins and ideal to stay before and after the Machu Picchu trek as avoids an early/ late trip from/to Cusco.

The location is great. Room was very comfortable and clean- I especially liked that the toiletries are sustainable and locally sourced (shampoo and conditioner bar & soap). The staff were amazing, they patiently answered all my questions and went the extra mile for me by preparing a breakfast bag the day I was leaving early for Machupicchu. Amazing place to stay at the heart of Ollantaytambo! They also have coca leaves tea available to help deal with altitude sickness.

We loved staying here. The owner was wonderful and very friendly. The location is great as it is only a 5 minute walk into the main square. Breakfast was plentiful. It is very clean and the bed was very comfortable. What more could you ask for?! I would recommend staying here if your are visiting Ollantaytambo.

Beautiful location at the train station (although it's a 5-10 minute uphill to the main town square). Hotel is absolutely beautiful with gardens all over your walk to your room. The room was very spacious, very clean, bathrooms were modernized, and bed was super comfy. Breakfast was excellent.
