A really nice shukubo experience - definitely recommend it. You get a sense of the daily life of the monks, and it is well located next to all the main sights in Koya. In the morning, you can participate in two rituals, and they are as depicted on the photos. Hope to be back some day!

Beautifully converted machiya in the centre of the historic district of Gojo. Absolutely incredible view over the river and mountains. The host gave perfect recommendations (go where he tells you, the Okonomiyaki and the cocktail bar were excellent) and even reserved places for us. A really exceptional and kind host who had thought of lots of ways to ensure the stay was perfect. Can’t say enough wonderful things, one of the best places we’ve stayed in Japan and definitely the best host. Only wish we’d stayed longer!

Exactly what I was looking for to end my trip in Japan — a peaceful, relaxing stay. The location is perfect for visiting Mount Koyasan, and the host even provided brochures and helpful recommendations. They were incredibly generous — picking me up at the station and treating me to fresh local fruit from their farm, coffee, amazing fruit teas, and freshly roasted chestnuts. A wonderful experience all around.
