This very unique looking hotel was villa style. We found it not problem, and it was close to local amenities. We were greeted by a very friendly member of staff who showed us around a very spacious apartment. Which had dining area, separate bedroom, bathroom and toilet. This hotel was a gem 💎 There was an amazing view, and bus stops 5 mins away in either direction.
The room was spacious and the historic atmosphere of the hotel was wonderful. The cave onsen was interesting, but not very hot honestly. Situated along the riverside was dramatic and so picturesque. I was fine sleeping on the futon mattresses on the tatami mats, but my friend complained that she was very uncomfortable. The food was ever-so delicious, but just too much for us old folks. It is a very romantic atmosphere and walking around the village was enjoyable.
The authentic dining and private bath experience, and staying in a property that was apparently a couple of hundred years old belonging to a samurai. A pleasant walk to the property from Aso station surrounded by the Aso mountains and through a quiet Japanese village is memorable.
It's a very beautiful place, like a village with traditional European style. You could take a walk around the courtyard. We live in the 2F, and while entering the house, you could smell wood ( Hinoki ).
Villa and private Onsen are amazing
It is an old building right on the river, in a great location for the village and onsens. There was free coffee in the lobby before or after breakfast. We had a corner room with a great view of the river.
Lovely staff, the house itself is in a great location in Sakitsu village. Charming and tatami-style.
The Ryokan is next to the stream and a small charming shopping street, a very quaint onsen village. The dinner was delicious, and staff was attentive.
The owners were so friendly and nice, they knew we were looking at houses to buy and were excited to show us their beautiful kominka (old Japanese house). We asked about a laundromat in town and they let us use theirs, which was great because the other one closed before 7pm and we would've had to rush back from dinner or our onsen in Kurokawa village. We didn't cook but the kitchen in this cabin was big and perfect for longer stays and cooking meals.
