Toba Boi Guesthouse is a tranquil hideaway wrapped in padi fields and village charm, unless you happen to book one of the front-facing rooms. Then it’s a nightly festival. Rooms either face the peaceful rice paddies at the back (cue frogs, breeze, and existential bliss) or overlook Tataring Coffee & Resto, where a live band rocks out every Thursday and Saturday evening until midnight. Yes, the music is loud. No, earplugs won’t save you. But credit where it’s due.. the band slaps. Think less “karaoke horror” and more “why aren’t they famous yet?” A short walk takes you to shops and local eats, and there’s a chill little beach right opposite Tataring for your morning cool-off or evening cooldown. Perfect if you’re into either deep sleeps or deep bass. Choose wisely when booking—or just bring your dancing shoes and call it balance. Shoutout to caretaker Siska, a sweet, smiley lady who checked us in with warmth and a no-fuss attitude. She also shared great tips on where to eat and what to do, local style. The property is very clean. The staff were very helpful. You have to go down a flight a stairs to go to the room. Overall, it was a good stay.

Every room includes a balcony with lake views. Everything was excellent! Best thing about this hotel are the views. Once you open the door of your room, you’re greeted by an impressive view of Lake Toba. It appears to be a new hotel, so the room and furnishings were new and clean. Location was fantastic as well. The hotel is right next to the water, so the ferry from Parapat can drop you off right at the hotel pier and pick you up from the same place. There are great restaurants nearby. I strongly recommend Coffee 2 Go across the street for breakfast and coffee, and Rosalie’s Beer Garden and Restaurant a 5-min walk away for lunch and dinner. Staff is friendly and helpful, though not all of them speak English.

We loved our stay here! Pino, his family and the staff were all so welcoming and lovely! We ended up staying here longer than expected. The rooms were very big, clean and a great balcony to chill on! Food in the restaurant was tasty, bike rental was easy and the bikes were in great condition. One of our favourite stops during our trip :)

I tried various different restaurants from my stay at Tuktuk and nothing came close to the food made by Hamlet and Rita at Laster Jony's. It felt like coming back home from a long day of travelling. Definitely try their veggie and cheese omelette, fried rice, and mixed fruit pancake 😍.
