We were met by Charlie and his sons at the dock when we arrived from Leticia and taken to the cabins. They are a short walk from the centre of town, on a beautiful property surrounded by nature. The cabins are simple but impeccably clean, comfortable and with everything you might need. Charlie and his family helped us arrange activities, transport and meals for the three days we were there. They are some of the warmest and most welcoming people we met on our trip around South and Central America. We had a truly wonderful time staying here, and only wish we could have stayed longer. It was the highlight of our trip.

Casa amazilia is a recently renovated guest house in Leticia, where guests can makes the most of its outdoor swimming pool, open-air bath and garden. It was such a perfect one night stay and the most comfortable sleep we had in more than 10 days in the Amazon. The breakfast was great and the hosts were so friendly and helpful! We hope to return!

An American breakfast is available at the guest house. At the property, there is an on-site family-friendly restaurant serving dinner and a selection of vegetarian options. We had a very good time here. We are Canadian so we only stayed two nights because we are not accustomed to the heat (no A/C) but other than that we would have enjoyed doing more of the activities. We enjoyed the dolphins and a walk in town. The people in the community were friendly and welcoming and there is a little museum which is very interesting to get a sense of the community. At the hotel Elizabetta and her colleagues took good care of us when we needed something. We borrowed binoculars, and they ran to the store for us once when we asked for a soda (turns out they don’t carry that, just water). It’s an ecolodge, so if you don’t come expecting a 5 star hotel, and you can be a gracious guest in a native community, you will enjoy. Speaking a little Spanish will really helped us.

From the moment we stepped through the sleek front gate, we were captivated by the contemporary design and attention to detail. The house boasted state-of-the-art amenities, including a spacious and fully equipped kitchen with a stylish fridge that added a touch of luxury to our stay. The air conditioning system provided a welcome escape from the outside heat, ensuring our comfort throughout the day. One standout feature was the commitment to safety. The property was equipped with a robust security system, including cameras strategically placed to monitor the surroundings. The large gate added an extra layer of security, providing peace of mind during our stay. The spacious apartment has 4 bedrooms, a flat-screen TV with cable channels, a fully equipped kitchen with an oven and a microwave, a washing machine, and 2 bathrooms with a shower. Towels and bed linen are available in the apartment. For added privacy, the accommodation features a private entrance. This is a nice condo in easy walking distance to many stores, parks and restaurants. We stayed there after a multi-day excursion in the jungle and it suited our needs perfectly. For those from the US, the washing machine is a bit odd, but we figured it out. It's worth noting that one of the bedrooms is outside of the AC zone. All of the beds are comfortable and the wifi was good. The host was very responsive.

The food was delicious, the tours were incredible, and the price-performance ratio was definitely on point. A very special thank you to Carlos – he is the best tour guide! At the guest house, each unit is equipped with a wardrobe. Units are fitted with a shared bathroom, and some units at the guest house have a patio. At the guest house, each unit includes bed linen and towels. From the moment we were greeted at the riverside by our host upon arrival, until the moment we left, we have been treated with kindness and warmth by our host, his family and the wider community. You see that the community is keen to have tourists stay in Macedonia such that they can then use the funds to progress their community projects. For this reason alone I’d recommend this as a base from which to explore the Amazon rather than staying in Leticia. Sure you could get on a group tour from Leticia which herds you quickly through the various communities on the river but you’d be missing out on so much and only a small portion of your funds would be directly helping this community. Lie back in a hammock, listen to the forest and escape the bustle of everyday life. Highly recommend the tours they run. No agencies are involved, our host just gets the locals with the relevant expertise to conduct the tour / activity. There were only ever the 2 of us on any given tour / activity and we did many of them including night walk, animal sanctuaries, fishing, visit to see the sloths, way of life experience etc so you really are getting the personal touch. Our host provided boots for the muddier walks, good binoculars when needed and flashlights. If you are here on a weekend make sure you are around one of the afternoons to watch the community football and volleyball - Great fun. The heat and mosquitos were no way near as bad as we were expecting but we did take the standard recommended precautions (hats, long sleeves, mosi repellant etc). The meals are expertly prepared and delicious. Recommend to bring good earplugs, roosters wake up early! Muchas Gracias!!!!
