Gabriel and Jorge, the hosts, can create an atmosphere of being welcome, of being home - not being client XYZ… The suites/apartments have roughly the size of a big hotel room (including a nice bathroom in the rocks), but with a big terrace facing the sea. The mattresses are of good quality so the basis for a good sleep is ensured. The kitchen (which is part of the room) has a single ring (induction) and a microwave - enough to prepare a breakfast, but not a full-fledged dinner. But there are enough nice restaurants in Calheta centre or… one can book a meal prepared by Gabriel, who is not only a great host but also an excellent chef. It was really a wonderful time we had at this place, thanks Gabriel and Jorge!

We recently had the pleasure of staying at Sara and John's place with my boyfriend, and I must say, the hosts were truly extraordinary. Not only did they provide a comfortable and enjoyable stay, but they also left a lasting impression with their incredible warmth, welcoming spirit, and fascinating stories. From the moment we arrived, they greeted us with open arms, creating an immediate sense of belonging. They had a package of essential information prepared and readily assisted us with any additional requests, generously sharing insights and tips about the island. I also fell in love with their boxer, Ziva, who is an absolute sweetheart. We were immediately struck by the attention to detail and the overall quality of the accommodation, not to mention the delightful welcome box that included a great Portuguese wine. The spaciousness of the place allowed us to move freely and comfortably, providing a sense of relaxation throughout our stay. The breakfasts provided were truly lovely- we had the pleasure of selecting our preferences each day. The ingredients used were sourced from local shops, farmers, and even neighbors, ensuring a fresh and delightful culinary experience. The presentation of the breakfast spread was beautifully done. To top it off, my boyfriend was treated to a different specialty coffee each day. What made the breakfast experience even more memorable was the delightful company and engaging conversations we had with our hosts. Not to mention the joy of having Ziva assisting us every day. We thoroughly enjoyed starting our days in the company of our hosts, and it added an extra layer of enjoyment to our overall stay. Finding a place hosted at such a great level is not common, and it truly was a treat. However, what we cherish most is the opportunity to have met such remarkable people, and our hope to see them again goes beyond empty phrases. We wholeheartedly recommend Casa Vida Alegra, and it holds a special place in our hearts.

Elaine is very kind and helpful. The apartment was above her bakery, so we could start every morning with some delicious nata looking over the sea. Right next to the villa there is a shop as well, that is open until 9pm.

The villa is much, much bigger that what you can expect from photos and description. It is huge, with 3 big rooms, each with own bathroom + two additional toilets. It is located in the lovely town of Paul do Mar, there is a beach (rocky, actually concrete) close by, some bars (two were open) and a shop. There are nice restaurants just 5 minutes walk from the villa. The kitchen is nicely furbished. Swimming pool is a bit small, but enough for kids to play in.

Location great - a lovely friendly fishing village with a few nice restaurants and a small supermarket just up road (past villa so took a day for us to find!). Villa clean and spacious, beds all comfy. Kitchen well equipped for cooking if didn’t want to eat out. Also bbq area and outside table to use. Pool area lovely sun trap! Will hopefully return really enjoyed our stay.

Everything was really great. The location in small village Paul do Mare with great sunsets. The owner was friendly and nice. Room was large and clean with great view to ocean. Breakfast was amazing.

Great place, away from larger towns, Tranquil property, with magical waves noise, excellent place to stay for vacation. Extremelly clean, great and very helpful owner. Town is in great part of the island, with many levadas and great places to visit by car nearby. Excellent restaurants walking distance, quiet port and stone beach for short walks. Great cliffs just next to sea. Many colorful and picturesque villages just minutes away.. Paradise..

Comfortable set up, ample of space for larger group. good terrace with beautiful ocean view. Nice setting in quiet and peaceful village. Accommodating and friendly host. Some basic supplies like salt are available.
