This place is expensive but well priced for the beauty and aesthetic detail it offers. A traditional ryokan in Hakone or in Kurashiki is possibly struggling to maintain the property and offer modern ammenities and updated food and will charge more than here for less comfort and beauty. Toutou ‘s renovation gives everything a traditional ryokan might have, in a modern comfortable way . (No dinner but great fruit / breads/ tea and facilities to bring in food provided) I would come here everytime I was in Japan . …. And I usually don’t pay more than about $75 US / $100 to $120 NZ per night per person when travelling. Stay two nights if you can. It really does deliver at this price point.

Beautifully renovated old structure, with modern kitchen and bath facilities. The location is as good as you can get in Kurashiki, just around the corner from the historic district. The whole accommodation experience is well designed, with complementary tea, bread, and fruits, and a nice collection of music to play. A great choice if you wish to relax and spend time together inside.

This ryokan is a traditional ryokan right in the middle of the historical town. One of the staff even gave us a tour of the building explaining how it was over a hundred years ago. The food and service was excellent.

A beautifully curated, peaceful and calm modern Japanese style space up a narrow flight of stairs. There is even your own pocket sized balcony overlooking the rooftops.
