We did the 2-day, 1-night hike and it was an amazing experience. Our guide was excellent – knowledgeable, friendly, and very informative. The staff were all so kind, helpful, and great company throughout our stay. I can highly recommend this place to anyone.

Location, location, location! This is the best place to experience the true bukit lawang - almost tourist free. I stayed here with my baby for more than a week and we’ve felt so like home here. The river is absolutely stunning with deep pools, shallow pools and a sandbank!! You are also so close to the national park, and the stream of water directly from the mountain (just a 5min walk away). Every mornings and evenings we are greeted with unique jungle music and sounds of orang utans (now and then). We even spotted a big male orang utan right at the back of our room once. Food and fruit juices were absolutely delicious and people here are very friendly. They played with my daughter very much like family and it made our stay a very comfortable one. If you’re coming with family or babies, you can request for the upper big room with shelves and is more spacious. The view from the balcony is absolutely stunning.

Very nice stay. Host is amazing and friendly. They also offer food which is really good. Do the treking tour with them even if you are not staying there, because they do their best to organize you the most amazing experience. Ask for Balu to be your guide, he is very nice and will go the extra mile to make your trek even better. We did 3D2N and it was totaly worth the extra day. Eventhough the prices for treks are the same in whole Bukit Lawang the experience is different depending the company you are getting tour with. Thank you Teddy for everything!

What a beautiful setting! A little piece of luxury living in an exciting and peaceful jungle setting. Thank you to Agus, Sarah and their team of staff and especially Ellie the cook who gave us some of the tastiest food we have eaten on our travels around Indonesia. The trekking was amazing, well organised, fun and again the food the trekking guys made was delicious. Room was perfect, clean, peaceful with the little luxuries we needed after backpacking. Fun friendly team, we can't wait to come back. Nothing was too much trouble. Thank you xx

5 stars is not enough to rate our experience! We had a really great time at Magpie homestay. The accomodation is pretty, comfortable, clean, and surrounded by a very beautiful and private tropical garden. The host will cater to your every need, from transportation to local activities and offers delicious homemade meals. We also booked a day-long trek with them and it was perfect, the guide and his assistant did everything they could for us to have the best experience in the forest (and we did!). If you want to discover a bit more the tourist part of the village you will have to walk a little to reach it (or use a tuktuk), the path is easy to follow and you'll be able to get a good view of the area. The entrance of the park is a short walk from Magpie.

I had a wonderful stay at Grandma guesthouse. Stayed for 3 nights, went on a multi day trek and then returned for one more night. My return felt like coming home. Yusuf and his family are very warm and welcoming, and will go above and beyond to make you comfortable. Organising the trekking and onward travel with Yusuf was super easy and very well organised. He also has a school for underprivileged children, which I went to visit and helped to teach English and played badminton with them. The girls also practise traditional dancing in the Warung connected to the guesthouse (which serves really cheap and tasty local food), so by staying here you will experience more than just the jungle, but also get an insight into the local community. A great experience that I’ll never forget. Thank you Yusuf and family!

We stayed in Bukit Lawang and it was amazing. Our guide Monang was very kind and took care of us all the time. We went to the jungle and saw orangutans and other monkeys. It was a big dream for me! After the trek we came back on the river with a fun rafting boat, it was so great. The accommodation was clean and comfortable, with nice people. We felt welcome and safe. I really recommend this place and our guide Monang, he was fantastic and made our trip very special.

There was nothing we didn’t like. Comfortable beds, beautifully decorated room, amazing tropical garden, delicious food in the restaurant, the well organised and executed overnight tour into the jungle (yes, we were lucky to see orangutans in the wild) But it is the people working at the Orangutan discovery villa that made our stay unforgettable - highly hospitable, accommodating, genuine in every way. If we are ever to go back to Bukit Lawang it will be the this place.
