At the bed and breakfast, every unit comes with bed linen and towels. We weren't sure where to stay in Shela with all of the incredible options, so decided to listen to the reviews combined with the price point and pick this place. We were so pleased with our stay: beds are v comfortable, the multi-storied building allows nice breeze in, the terrace is an absolute dream. The breakfast was so good with fresh fruit, pastries, bread, banana pancakes, and swahili tea. We were looking at the island's more expensive offers and don't feel that we missed out at all. This felt like the perfect mix of affordability, comfort, and relaxation. It was also so much more peaceful than would have been directly on the beach. They clean everything daily so it's sparkiling. It's incredibly comfortable.

It felt like a real home, not an anonymous guest house. The beach was incredibly clean and despite the poverty very little was being hawked so it was truly peaceful. Shela is far preferable to Lamu.

Featuring a swimming pool and tropical gardens, Kijani Hotel is situated on the coast of Lamu Island, along the Indian Ocean. The décor comes with natural handmade furniture, lanterns and ornaments.

The rooms include en suite bathrooms with a shower and complimentary toiletries. The suites also offer views of the sea or garden, as well as a balcony and seating area. Beautiful location in Shela village, stunning gardens around the hotel and a short walk to Shela Beach which goes on forever. The restaurant at Kijani is amazing, better than Peponi! Definitely have the Kijani Crab Curry!

This historical Arabian-style building is located in the UNESCO-listed town of Lamu. It is less than 300 metres from the seafront and 3 km from the white sandy beach.

The bright rooms at Subira House have either a patio or a balcony and some have sea views and free Wi-Fi. Every room has a fan, a seating area, and a dining area. Gorgeous house with amazing swahili flair, lovely hosts. Seems like they contribute to the Lamu community in a big way, they are well known and loved with everyone I spoke to. Hotel staff will help you organize any outing you‘d like, I can recommend Dhow trips, but they also help with other activities (plus reasonable pricing recommendations). Eco friendly facilities and the breakfast is amazing with ingredients sourced almost exclusively from their own Lamu farm.

At the bed and breakfast, the units come with a private bathroom and bed linen. The location was easy to find and we felt safe moving around in the area after dark. The Queen Deluxe room was great. The staff was caring and attentive. The room was clean. The “balcony” or the open room near bedroom was beautiful, cozy and pleasant to spend time at. There were mosquito nets on the bed. It is obvious that lots of love and effort has been put into restoration of the building.
