A really lovely place, the rooms are big, clean and comfortable (good bed, good bathroom, hot water), and it is really relaxing to hang out on the big balcony (one at each floor) overlooking the forest 😊 Very well located, in a relatively quiet street but very close to the city center. I did the cooking class with Rani, and not only I learned several recipes (and where to buy the spices in Thekkady) that I can do again myself at home, but after cooking we enjoyed a truly delicious veg meal.

There was plenty of variety to choose from in the buffet breakfast on both days that we stayed at Shiny Spices Homes. We had a good view of hills and picturesque tea gardens from our room. The host Mr Alan, was very kind and very helpful who arranged for buckets of hot water, our cabs for pick up, sight seeing, as well as drop off.

If you come to stay at this home stay you will be treated to the most warm and personal hospitality from the owner Mr Jobby. The views from the rooms are incredible overlooking the family tea plantation. Take some time in the morning to listen the cacophony of bird song from your balcony. The food served here is top notch. One of the many highlights of our stay was meeting Mr Jobby’s friends one who runs a small spice shop (much more authentic than the numerous large spice shop enterprises in the area) and another, a school friend, whose family grow cardamoms and process them for other local growers. I urge you to spend a couple of nights here, you will not be disappointed.
