Set a short distance away from the hustle and bustle of Russell during high season, The Sails was a wonderful location to relax and unwind. The area is spectacular and truly worth visiting. Allow at least two nights to explore the area and to enjoy its gentle pace. Truly it's a very idyllic town with oodles of charm. We were made to feel welcome and the accommodation was spacious, comfortable and tastefully decorated. Thankyou to our welcoming hosts Joan and Vivien. If we were Kiwis, we'd be back (and if we do cross the ditch again and head North, we will be back).

I’ve stayed in many places around New Zealand, and I can honestly say this was the cleanest place we’ve ever stayed in — everything was spotless! Beyond the amazing cleanliness, the apartment had absolutely everything we needed — from a fully equipped kitchen with all the utensils to board games, puzzles, and even a washer and dryer. The beds were incredibly comfortable, and the location couldn’t be better — just a few steps away from beautiful Paihia Beach. The host even provided a porta cot with bedding for our baby, which was such a thoughtful touch and made our stay even more comfortable. Thank you so much — we would stay here over and over again! Highly recommend to anyone visiting the area

This is a special place to stay - the views from our room over the bay were spectacular. We enjoyed breakfast on the terrace and exploring the islands. Brita and Heinz are generous hosts and nothing is too much trouble. Our room was spacious and well equipped. This has to be one of the best places I have stayed.

This place is one of the best places we have ever stayed. The hosts were so helpful and saw to everything we needed.

Overlooking the Bay of Islands and Te Haumi Beach, The Retreat Bay of Islands Paihia offers free Wi-Fi. The basic self-contained holiday accommodation boasts a private balcony and sea views. The flat was very comfortable to stay in during 12 days. The view from the balcony was spectacular and everchanging. The hosts were engaging, very friendly, responsive, informative and 24/7 reachable. The apartment was very clean. We would come back any time.

Not many motels can claim to overlook a waterfall and an ocean-river lagoon, but Waterfalls Estate can. An absolutely amazing place. At first glance it looks like a regular motel, but once you step inside you get this stunning view of the waterfalls, free kayaking, super convenient, well equipped. We made ourselves breakfast and headed on our way. The guy at reception was really friendly. We would’ve happily stayed longer.
