Very highly recommended to stay here, especially if you decide to use Praia as your base to discover this amazing country. The apartment is huge, really huge, the bed and the entire bedroom is very comfortable. The bathroom is clean, spacious, everything works smoothly and not that I needed, but you get your own dryer too. There are two small shops nearby (2 mins on foot), several nice restaurants with local and usual international food if that's what you are after. Bus 8, which takes you downtown for 50 ESC is 5 minutes walk, the shopping mall (atm, supermarket etc) is also there. One of the nicest beaches in the city is also 5 minutes by foot. Walking to downtown is also fun and fine, it takes about 25 minutes, almost entirely right by the coast, so it is a really nice walk, did it many times. I had breakfast included in my stay, served just next door: nothing unnecessarily fancy, great omelette, cheese, fruits, coffee, and of course cachupa - but not any kind, in fact one of the best I had throughout my entire stay, don't miss it! Yes, the neighbourhood is very safe (not that I had any issues anywhere during my 2+ weeks) and quiet both during the day and the night. If you are traveling alone, especially as a woman, this place is perfectly safe - the entire walk from downtown Praia to the block is illuminated, based on the plates most of the neighbours are diplomats and you have security guards at every 200 meters. I left the best and most important for last: the owner of the place. Johnny is the perfect host, like your long lost high school friend: he knows everything and can arrange anything, but also leaves you alone if that's what you want (that's what I needed). He is easygoing (like almost everyone around here), easy to reach, speaks English and I think French apart from Kriol, Portuguese and Dutch. You can tell his love for Cape Verde and his job the minute you meet him. I would definitely come back again.

Lovely flat really spacious and well situated. Really easy check in and out. Really safe and surrounded by locals but close to the 2 main beaches and restaurants. Lovely host, gave me pointers on what to do and visits. Good wifi and quiet for remote workers. Good pool accessible in the next building.

A very nice B&B. Bruno made a very good breakfast every morning. I enjoyed the terrace with the hammocks. Ocean view, sound of the waves, relaxing. Bruno arranged a boat/fishing trip for me. Highly recommended! Do bring water, and sun protection :)

Villa Concetta was a great base to explore Cidade Velha. Bruno was great and also kindly allowed me to check out slightly later as I had a later flight. He also helped to arrange taxis to and from the airport. The pousada is a short walk from the centre of the town, but it's not far and being near the beach is amazing. There's some great views across to Fogo too!
