Our stay was more like a visit with good friends and a highlight of our month long journey through Portugal. We tried to stray from the main tourist route and were amply rewarded! Our hosts, Luiz & Celia, restored the family mansion to its original splendor, in a very authentic manner - the main house as well as the enticing adjacent old stone cottages, which are self- catering. Luiz took us to the remains of the Roman bridge and road, well worth a visit. He also showed us around his own house, a remarkable 'house museum'. Definately worth a detour.

The house is amazing, stylish, super clean, cozy and comfortable. The best stay we had in Portugal. The owner was super responsive and kind (let us stay few hours longer without additional charge). It is the perfect place for a family stay. The house had everything we needed to cook the food, both inside and outside. It is a quite place with a fantastic view over the vineyards and the river. Our kid enjoyed the pool area, especially when the lovely donkey Nikita came by :) The territory is well kept and the staff is polite (and even easy and interesting to speak with even if you don't speak Portuguese). This beautiful Quinta is easily accessed by the road and train. We really enjoyed the large property's natural beauty, the history of the building, and especially the warm hospitality of the staff. We were a family of five (parents, a grandparent, and 2 young kids) and we were thrilled to have our own little apartment/house near the main Quinta that gave us 3 real bedrooms and bathrooms as well as a kitchen and living room, which made it easy for us to all have enough space to maneuver on our own schedules. It was very easy to access the train station. We easily rode up to Pinhao, had lunch and a boat ride, and came back in the late afternoon. Another day we went down to the Arouca suspension bridge. I appreciated that we were in a beautiful part of the Douro, but it wasn't swarmed with tourists either.
