This half-day guided tour by 4x4 will take you into the beautiful Sicilian countryside to learn the history and science behind Mount Etna, Europe's largest and most active volcano.
During the tour, you'll get to soak up panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea and surrounding Valle del Bove, and you can also spot various species of resident flora and fauna as you go. Equipped with helmets and torches, you'll then explore a subterranean system created by a lava flow, before you discover the flavours of the region with an included wine, liquor and honey tasting session.
We propose to spend a day with us in a small friendly group to discover a beautiful nature, endemic flora and fauna and the amazing environment of Mount Etna.
We will pick you up in the morning in the certain meeting point (8.30 piazza Stesicoro 32, Catania or 9.15 piazza S.Alfio in Trecastagni - PLEASE SPECIFY WHERE). On the way to Etna we will stop on a village for a coffee break and to buy food for the lunch time.
We will drive to reach the altitude of 2.000 above sea level. At this altitude we will start our moderate hike off the beaten tracks (approx. 3 hours) to admire the fascinating landscape of the Valle del Bove, the biggest caldera of Mount Etna and its moon like deserts. From there we will enjoy breathtaking views of the summit craters and the surrounding landscapes facing the Ionian Sea.

An unforgettable excursion: ascent by Cable Car and 4x4 Bus up to 2850m (tickets not included, 45 € per person to be purchased at the meeting point). From here the route begins on foot, a fascinating stage will be that on some extinct craters, eruptive vents and lava fractures. It will continue to Barbagallo craters at 3000 meters. From here you can observe the majestic Summit Craters and admire recent lava flows (01-12-2023), until you reach the inside of a lava flow channel. You will visit the effusive vent of the 2002 eruption and from here you will descend along the sands to Montagnola from where you will observe the Valle del Bove, a great volcano-tectonic depression. Breathtaking panorama that arouses in visitors a feeling of arcane power that few other places in the world can convey. The return walk by cable car allows you to take a last look at this enchanting lunar landscape, for about 4 hours of total walking
This tour will introduce you to the scenery, history and geology of Mount Etna. You'll climb up to Rifugio Sapienza, sitting at an altitude of 6300 ft, making plenty of stops along the way to take in the scenery. Your guide will tell you about the volcano's ancient history, as well as its more recent lava flows. You'll have the option to climb a further 200 ft along a hiking trail or continue all the way to the volcano's summit, at 9800 ft. You'll head back down, and using a helmet with a flashlight, explore a lava flow cave. The trip will end with a visit to an organic farm, where you can sample produce like honey, wines, oils and more.
We will start from the bridges of Ortigia and enter the great port of Syracuse and the beautiful alfeo seafront of Ortigia. Next we will leave the port to circumnavigate around the island and admire the monuments located along the coast. We will leave Ortigia to head towards the coast north of Syracuse to go and see the beautiful sea caves. We will then return from the small port to navigate the Ortigia channel that divides the island from the city and we will pass under the bridges to return to the starting point. the visit is guided and a historical and geographical explanation is provided. In addition, it is possible to stop for a swim. The tour lasts about 1 hour and 10/20 minutes.
