Destin is great in off season, not too much traffic, or wait time at restaurants. Be prepared for higher prices for groceries, if you plan on cooking suggest that you bring as much as you can from home, don't forget the condiments (salt, pepper, garlic, olive oil, etc) as well as anything else you might need from your pantry. Beautiful beaches and sunrise/sunset views. Recommend Boshamps and Harbor Docks (great sushi) to eat.

Niceville holds up to its name ... a nice community.
Niceville holds up to its name ... a nice community. There are several very nice and fairly new hotels but overpriced for the area. Long drive to get to the beaches and a toll bridge for the shortest drive to get there. Very congested if going to beaches through Ft Walton Beach due to new bridge construction going from Ft Walton to beaches on the island or Destin.

Fort Walton beach is perfect to settle in to the beach life!
Fort Walton beach is perfect to settle in to the beach life! Still plenty to see and do, but not overly busy! It is within walking distance to most area attractions and driving distance to more popular shopping, attractions

Niceville is a small town on the Choctawhatchee Bay.
Niceville is a small town on the Choctawhatchee Bay. I have family there and have watch it develop over the last 30+ years. There are many places to eat. If you enjoy the outdoors Turkey Creek Park is right there along with many other outdoor experiences. You can drive through town and take the Mid-Bay Bridge to Destin. It drops you off at a large shopping complex and minutes from the Silver Sands Outlet Mall. Beyond that is a short drive to the beach. Staying in Niceville allows you access to the beach without experiencing the overcrowding and heavy traffic everywhere you go.

Currently lots of construction going for a new bridge, and surrounding roads near the bridge. Has a free Air Force museum and a pier. Lots of seafood restaurants, a new glow-in-the-dark sidewalk that links FWB to Destin.
Found that Anglers had good food and a nice view. Stayed on the island away from busy Destin and was relatively quiet. Side roads included a dedicated bike lane.
Nice white sand beaches and sunsets. Water is a little chilly around November so did not go swimming. Watched some people fish from the shore and catch fish.

They advertise for breakfast but they never served any.
They advertise for breakfast but they never served any. You aren't allowed to even get coffee until 6:30 and even then, they only make three pots. So if you miss out, you just miss out. They also advertise for a pool and you cant swim in it. There's no hair dryer. Prostitutes hang out and knock on the doors at all hours of the night. We booked a 2 bed 4 person room and they only gave us ome bed and then when we asked for a double bed, it was going to be a $100 upcharge. We asked for a cancellation after being told it would be free and still told us we would have to pay for the first night. They double charged me and when I asked for it to be fixed they told me that I had to take it up with my bank. They also wont give you a receipt until after you check out. The sheets were severely stained and the fromt desk staff was not friendly. We will never stay there again nor would we advertise for it.

This was our first trip to Destin.
This was our first trip to Destin. The beaches are beautiful and not over crowded. There were many great places to eat, we enjoyed Parlor Donuts, Beignet and Brews, Lulus, and the Backporch. Also great shopping. We did a lot school clothes shopping while we were there. Both Destin Commons and Destin Outlets had great stores. We also went to the Gulfarium and our girls did the Penguin Encounter which was a lot of fun for them. Oveall, we had a great trip and are already planning our next to Destin.

Niceville was great!
Niceville was great! While it was further from the beach than I realized when I booked our trip, it was still a great place to be. Nice community, close to many key attractions, and plenty of food options.
