Only a 10 minute drive to acadia and 15 minute drive to Bar Harbor. It was a quaint little cottage, but with everything you needed. I would definitely come back.

Trenton Maine itself didn’t seem to have much to offer that we found other than its proximity to Acadia National Park. But I have to say we did not do any exploring in the town. It took about 20 to 30 minutes to get to ANP from Trenton. Hotel prices were certainly better there than staying in Bar Harbor. There are a number of restaurants in Trenton, many serving lobster and seafood that we visited and all were good. Our reason for being in the area was solely to visit Acadia National Park, so we did not spend much time in Trenton except when at our hotel, or when we had dinner after returning from the park. There was a market there on the main road with reasonably priced groceries that we stopped at to stock up for our trips into the park. We also stopped for gas at that same market which was very convenient.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Ellsworth, Maine—from its perfect proximity to Acadia National Park to the small-town charm that made each day feel special. One of our favorite memories was indulging in MoMo’s cheesecake in the middle of the night, a delicious and unexpected treat. While we didn’t care much for Helen’s Pot Roast, everything else—from the local food scene to the ease of getting around—was truly grand. Ellsworth served as the ideal base for our coastal Maine adventure.

Bar Harbor is a charming and picturesque town with plenty to enjoy when everything is open. However, if you’re visiting during the off-season, be sure to have a backup plan—many restaurants and shops are closed during this time. Unfortunately, most restaurant websites aren’t updated to reflect seasonal closures, so you may need to walk around and check in person, then pivot to another option if your first choice is closed.

This is a rare and quaint harbor village combining the offer of Maine heritage with an active fishing harbor with access to well kept trails leading in all directions around the island and home to a few unique horticultural gardens of amazing design and quiet delight.

The one thing this area will not be noted for is their coffee. Bad to very bad in most places. A decent stop is Sugar Bakery. A Cash only establishment they draw a crowd. But, their food is tasty while their "dark roast" coffee would qualify as an acceptable medium roast. So, it's the best of the least. Don't go to Bar Harbor for Lobster. Go the other direction! Union River Lobster Pot isn't just great. It's incredibly good. Very welcoming Owner and staff. Local ingredients and excellent food. Don't go anywhere else. Trust me.

Ellsworth is outside of Arcadia National Park and a great starting place to travel around the eastern shore line. We took a trip to Baxter State park and was able to travel other roads back to the motel seeing more of the state,

Bar Harbor is beautfully located by the bay. It is set for tourism with numerous stores and restaurants. We particularly enjoyed eating at The Thirst Whale (the clam chowder was one of the best) and Geddy's.

It was quiet compared to Bar Harbor and very peaceful. There were many shops and a few restaurants. The marina was lovely. Bar Harbor and Acadia were just minutes away. I would stay in Northeast Harbor again.

The only thing we found difficult was that there were no stores or fast food places open in the evening. But this is probably due to the pandemic. If you want any pizza or fast food, you need to buy before 5pm.
