The breakfast was good and well presented. The shuttle bus to and from the airport worked well for us. The receptionist was very helpful and had us checked in swiftly after a very long flight.

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) Information

Location and Transport

Located 5 miles (8 kilometres) southeast of downtown Austin Texas, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is easily accessed by car or public transport. There’s a direct MetroBus connection, to downtown running every half hour, while the standard taxi fare is USD 12.30, which includes a USD 1 surcharge.

Nearby Hotels and Airport Facilities

Travellers with scheduled stopovers or unexpected delays have a choice of several hotels located inside and close to the airport. Before takeoff, you can catch local musicians performing in different venues in the Barbara Jordan Terminal, from Monday to Friday. This terminal also features public art from Austin’s ‘Art in Public Places’ collection. Other useful services throughout both terminals include free WiFi, charging stations, currency exchange and ATMs.

Terminal Information

Austin-Bergstrom Airport contains two terminals: the (larger) Barbara Jordan Terminal and South Terminal. The South Terminal has a separate entrance on the south side of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and is not accessible from the Barbara Jordan Terminal. There is no shuttle bus between terminals. Catching a connecting flight at Austin-Bergstrom will require travellers to pass through immigration - a passport, visa or ESTA may be necessary.

We really didn't get an opportunity to explore the city of Del Valle, as we were there for a triathlon event. What I can say about the city is it is a little ways out from the city of Austin but close to highway 71 that leads to I-10

Use the parking garages near the capital building or use app...

Use the parking garages near the capital building or use app for parking on street. Hotels have valet parking for about $45 a day. Walk through Congress and 6th Street and try out coffee and doughnut shops all along the way. Try the city bus tour but use bathroom before and during stops with minimal water bottle drinks. Duck tour is fun. Most restaurants are expensive and some require reservations but are wonderful. There are many museums and places of interest during the day and night. Favorite place to eat dinner (check hours) Korean House, which is a drive NW of the Capital. Traffic is crazy. Other favorite place to eat and shop is HMart near Lakeline Blvd/183A.

Austin is an amazing city with friendly people.

Austin is an amazing city with friendly people. The progressive atmosphere really makes it an appealing destination. The Austin City Limits has brought me here 3 times and if possible I'd like to attend SxSW festival or Wicked Oaks festival. the 6th street entertainment district is awesome collection of venues with a wide variety of music and performers.

South Congress was definitely a highlight - it has such a fun mix of shops, coffee spots, and live music. Also East fifth and sixth street. We also loved exploring Zilker Park and catching the sunset views at Mount Bonnell. We tried a few of the classics - BBQ at Terry Black’s, tacos at Veracruz, and brunch at Café No Sé. Every meal was amazing, and there are endless options all over the city. ATX Cocina and Craft have to be some of my favorite restaurants I've ever been to. We walked a lot around downtown and South Congress, and when we needed to go farther, ubers were quick and reliable and CHEAP. We took an uber across the city for about 7 dollars. Also Waymo partnered with uber so you could randomly get a waymo which is scary but also a really fun experience and you can decline it if it isn't your thing. Parking can be a little tricky in busy areas, but overall it was simple to get around. Kayaking on Lady Bird Lake was a blast, and we loved the live music scene. You can find great bands almost any night of the week. We also enjoyed just exploring the neighborhoods, checking out breweries, and relaxing at Barton Springs Pool.
