Boasting a garden and views of inner courtyard, Unu Pikin Guesthouse is a recently renovated apartment situated in Paramaribo, 4 km from Paramaribo Central Market. This was my very first stay in Surinam. The shuttle service to and from the airport was pleasant and enjoyable, Gio was a great guide and chauffer. When I arrived at the Guesthouse, I was pleasantly surprised by how clean the surroundings were. The room was immaculate clean and neat. I arrived at 1.55 am, so I did not meet Carolien and check-in until 14.00. She was friendly and ensured that I understood how the calculations was done for the Studio apt. I was given a tour of the facilities and she took me on a little drive of the neighborhood to get familiar with the surrounding roads and shops. I realized Stichting Unu Pikin was close enough to most shops so you can walk or ride a bike to and fro. Taxi was easy to get to take you anywhere. I will definitely recommend Stichting Unu Pikin to anyone wanting to visit Suriname. Gio and Carolien was very pleasant and accommodating. My stay was most enjoyable and I made lots of new friends. Looking forward to my next vacation in Suriname...

The ambiance at Garden of Eden Restaurant was nice. KFC service downtown was poor, took an hour of waiting to get my order. Zoo has limited animals. Palm tree garden has a beautiful natural view for photos. Its easy to move around, street names are visible.
What an interesting place, so much to do, so much to see, great sightseeing possibilities, a place for all who are interested in history and culture; fantastic restaurants, amazing night life and shopping.
Very friendly people. One harsh lesson I learnt was to not buy too much SRD, other than enough to buy gas and snacks on the way to Parimaribo, prior to arriving there. The exchange rate will kill you. I found greater value in using USD at the many chinese stores to get the best exchange rate. Passie was a great eating experience and so was Sushi-Ya, but avoid Raja Ji indian across the road. Coffee Box was also a nice place to grab breakfast and chill. Zoo was in a bad shape and not worth the visit.
Traveling to the Town by Hired Taxi from the Hotel was quite interesting as you are able to get a little tour of the place before reaching the Town. Lots of Stores to dip in and out and others to buy lots of things such as souvenirs to take back home for friends and family members.
Not very tourist friendly. No signs on roads to direct you into the right way. No maps. Many footpaths were damaged or cars parked on it. Don’t really feel safe walking around. Been warned daily by locals about stealing and unsafe driving. Prices have doubled if not trippled in a few years time with declining quality of facilities and resorts or hotels. No value for money at all. No way to get around apart from overcharged tour agencies and taxis. Driving a rental car is dangerous and a target to break in or steal. Lots of derelict buildings and high entree fees.
Paramaribo is for Dutch people very comfortable as its easy to communicate. The historical sites to visit are very interesting and a visit to the Jungle in Upper Suriname is amazing. Food is wonderful and very diverse, Even the snackbars, with kroket and frikandel can be found here. Local TV stations broadcast several dutch channels a day.
