I was born here and used to love this city, especially its transformation from an industrial center into a tourist destination. Unfortunately, my recent visit was deeply disappointing. The city is overwhelmed by constant construction work, yet many areas feel neglected and abandoned. In some places it resembles a ghost town — people seem to disappear, while prices remain unreasonably high.
Accommodation is expensive and often offers very poor value for the cost. Public transportation functions badly: buses are unreliable, and the overall public transport network feels almost non-existent. In reality, only taxis and private transport platforms operate efficiently. Pollution levels are also noticeably high.
Although some cultural events may still take place, they are not easily visible or well promoted. As a result, visitors are left with the impression of chaos, high costs, and little return in terms of comfort or experience. Sadly, this visit did not reflect the city I once knew and admired.

Bydgoszcz has a lot of culture, including a fantastic filharmonia, an excellent opera house, and fine museums. Many places to get a meal, a cup of coffee, or a beer. The city has a cool vibe and the people are welcoming.

A charming mix of Gothic, Art Nouveau, and “I swear this building winked at me.” Chill, cultured, and just quirky enough to make you say “Bydgoszcz” three times fast and feel proud you nailed it. Warm-hearted, witty, and always ready to tell you why their city is cooler than Warsaw (and they might be right).
