Featuring a vegetarian restaurant, Kapievi Ecovillage offers accommodations in Puerto Maldonado. The property is a 15-minute car ride from the city's main square. We stayed 3 nights after spending time in a tambopata river lodge. Kapievi is a wonderful peaceful place with delicious food and quiet isolated rooms in a tropical setting. The pool is very welcome in the jungle heat. We had the inhouse vegetarian 3 course meal twice (different menu). The meals are beautifully presented, good portions and delicious. The staff were also very helpful arranging transport into the center of Puerto Maldonado. The location is on the outskirts of Puerto Maldonado so a taxi is necessary to and from. It's not walkable.

ROSA'S HOUSE is set in Puerto Maldonado and offers barbecue facilities and a shared lounge. Featuring a shared kitchen, this property also provides guests with a picnic area. What’s in a name? Rosa is a true rose, a beautiful person inside and out. Her kindness and generosity compel me to write my ONLY Booking.com review, even though I've explored 103 countries in a decade with Booking.com! Truth be told, I'm a busy adventure traveler, and it's never been worth my time to review accommodations - until Rosa. Rosa's House is a real and warm home experience in the amazing Amazon Jungle. The wild animal sightings just on her premises rival deeper Amazon sightings: jumping monkeys, flocks of birds including macaws, gigantic tarantulas. The natural and wild splendor was so captivating and mesmerizing I'd forget to care for myself. Rosa gently reminded me to eat and lovingly shared her family's fresh meals cooked from ingredients grown on her land. I started calling Rosa "Mama," as she's a caring mother at heart! Rosa's energy attracts such wonderful characters. Her partner Elvis is equally accommodating and an intellectually creative force. His fantastical art will have you in absolute awe! Their two dogs are adorably tactile and always ready to play. Again, this is my only Booking.com review because Rosa's House is the best out of the 500+ accommodations I've stayed at!

Located in Puerto Maldonado, KORYARES HAUS-TAMBOPATA offers accommodation with a private pool, a patio and pool views. The property features garden and inner courtyard views. The room was wonderful, had everything I may need - comfortable bed, towels, blanket, table, chair, bathroom was right there as well and the kitchen is right outside. Raul, the host, was very sweet and helpful showing me where to get food, we talked a lot about the animals in the jungle that I saw on my tours, and he gave me a ride to the airport. I had a much needed good quality break after living in jungle cabins for a while.

The rooms are thoughtfully created for total disconnection—no noise, no magnetic waves, just nature and a calming atmosphere. Everything has been carefully planned to make you feel good. We were warmly welcomed by Tom, who ensures every detail is perfect. The energy of this place is unique. You immediately feel at peace and connected to the essentials. Pretty small town, and only visited the area around centro (Plaza de Armas), but it was well-kept and had plenty of restaurants and a bank. Ate at two nearby restaurants (Burgos's and Carrion32), both of which were quite good and reasonably priced. It's also only 15-20 soles to ride a tuktuk-like taxi to or from the airport, and each fits up to 3x passengers if you are not carrying a ton of luggage. The taxis are fun too!
Puerto Maldonado is a little off the beaten path as far as tourist destinations go, so therefore it doesn’t have the modern comfort amenities that most tourists are accustomed to. However, if you are a nature enthusiast and want a real and authentic Amazon experience and friendly people, Puerto Maldonado is a great place to see the Amazon in the raw.
The staff is by far the greatest asset of Gree Diamond Lodge. They are exceptional. The beds could be improved. In my opinion the single best improvement they could make is finding a way to provide fans in the rooms, possibly powered by solar. The heat and humidity are quite overwhelming.
Our host Whally was so friendly he made us feel at home and our cook was so accommodating she was so kind and helpful and always made a huge effort to please us. The place was amazing for us, a family of four, interesting, exciting and the activities never seized to amaze us in short such a beautiful experience with a great team. Thank you so much for making us feel welcomed. ❤️
A great city with a relaxed atmosphere, the people here are very friendly and helpful. Loads of options for eating and drinking at very cheap prices. Street food is definitely worth a try as are the tiny street corner bars for empanadas and a glass of some kind of juice. Try Flama Central on Av Cusco for great grilled meats. Hamburgo for a burger. Any of the bars for big bottles of Cusqena beer, pilsner, trigo, dorada or negra, they’re all great. Head to the ferry port and talk to the family running the bar there about a river trip with Edu, one of the sons who is a guide. After dusk you might get to see Owl monkeys a little further along the river bank. Again, ask Edu It’s easy to walk the grid system but you can always flag down a moto if you’re feeling weary. Head to the Cacao centre to eat or drink and you might see a family of tamarins passing through or an agouti.
Regarding the town of Puerto Maldonado itself, I would have to say it was pretty unimpressive. We did find a gem of a coffee shop (Fauna), but other than that it’s a little bit rough and sad. Definitely the jumping off point for all of the lodges and excursions - but the town itself is not a highlight unfortunately.
