Such a lovely location! We arrived quite late, but was still greeted by the host who gave us a very warm welcome. The building was very charming, and the smell of fresh wood was still present in the lodge, despite it being 30 years or so old. Would have loved to have stayed longer.

Exactly what we needed after a long trip , place felt warm and welcoming , Maria was amazing very hospitable and tended to our needs of checking in earlier than planned. Fantastic property. Modern, clean, comfortable. Really well furnished, well stocked. Supplied quite a few breakfast things, snacks and tea/coffee goodies which was brilliant. Washing facilities (washer, dryer, laundry sink, washing line). Spacious. Comfortable. Great value for money. Highly recommend.

Matamata Central Motel is a 20-minute drive from the Hobbiton Movie Set & Farm Tours, where parts of the Lord of the Rings trilogy were being filmed.

Neil and Sue were fantastic hosts, got the balance of being around to help with questions or advice on activities, whilst giving guests privacy spot on! The food was a real highlight and even more impressive given Neil and Sue also do this themselves! The cottage and main property were furnished perfectly and we loved the interiors, bedding, wash products and beautiful gardens in particular.
