The beach in bouchon is not really a beach, and I found a herd of cows in the sea, which while hilarious, didn’t encourage me to lie down next to them to sun bathe. I ended up going to La Cambuse, which is an amazing beach, which an excellent resort where you can have lunch. However, I took taxi’s from place to place, and I was on my own - the taxi driver and his friend figured out I was staying on my own in a vacant house (only for a couple of hours to shower before leaving for the airport) and after dropping me off they both came back and were trying to get into the property - I almost called the police when they gave up and left, so solo female travelers be very careful here.

Excellent beach.
Excellent beach. Lots of outdoor options -- boat trips, SCUBA, snorkelling, wildlife tours. The Bougainville Restaurant was superb. The nearby BoVallon Shopping Centre was new, and a great place to shop.

Mahbourg is charming.
Mahbourg is charming. I like city sounds and working people so I found it to be quite charming. Nearby restaurants were delicious and friendly and affordable. Transit is available to most destinations. The Monday market was very interesting. The people were delightful. We loved our stay.

I came in with some reservation due to the wind that was considered to be a problem by other visitors. Some others were ranking the West coast over the East Coast (we were on the East Coast) but after visiting the entire island, we were very happy about our choice.

Blue bay is perfect for a typically Mauritian beach holiday.
Blue bay is perfect for a typically Mauritian beach holiday. There are no large shops or fancy restaurants. There is a shopping centre a short ride away, but in general this is a quiet area, which is exactly what we wanted. It was our fifteenth, yes 15th visit to Le Peninsula Bay hotel, and it is perfect for our needs. The hotel is not a 4 or 5 star, but a very good 3 star. Most rooms have sea views. Try the Ocean View rooms. Really worth it.

Mahebourg is not at all touristy.
Mahebourg is not at all touristy. You get A true taste of island life. The eateries are mainly visited by locals with the odd tourist. They're cheap & always delicious. I must recommend Chez Marilyn. Blue Bay is a short drive from town & well worth a visit! We stayed for 7 nights which was a few days too long, maybe 4 or 5 nights is enough.
