This is a wonderful place with lots of extras like kayaks you can use and a very clean pool. I also got one of the best massages I ever had and the staff was incredibly attentive. A wonderful experience!

Located in Hida, Gal Oya Lake View Inginiyagala features a terrace and shared lounge. Featuring a 24-hour front desk, this property also provides guests with an outdoor fireplace. The house is located in a remote area near the Gal Oya National Park. It is peaceful and you can hear nature sounds when no vehicles are driving past the little road. That also means that there are a lot of animals around the area, and specifically insects, so you should be ok with that. The rooms are good for the basic needs. The owners are friendly and do their best to fulfill all of our requests as well as they can. They can arrange a car or boat safari for you, which is convenient, and we also went on a hike with the husband in a nearby mountain. They can provide all the meals according to your food preference which was nice for us because we are vegan. The food was tasty and the portions were way too large! They also provide tea and fresh juice from seasonal fruit.

Charitha Rest provides an open-air bath, as well as air-conditioned accommodation in Ampara. There is a private entrance at the guest house for the convenience of those who stay. Charitha and his family were great hosts and extremely attentive to all our needs (ready to go above and beyond). The food was delicious, the room was large and clean with an air conditioning that worked almost too well, there is a seating area in the garden from which you can hear birds and witness monkeys walking along the electrical wires. The property is walking distance (30 min) from Owagiriya Natabun Viharaya (Buddhist temple ruins) and as we were on our way Charitha kindly gave us a lift, as well as to another destination later during our stay. Both the father and mother are absolute sweethearts, and are more than happy to sit down with you for a chat (I had a little well needed Sinhalese crash course). From what I can see they are building more rooms/bungalows and a restaurant in the back, but as of February 2025 it truly had that quaint local feel I look for when I travel.

Set in Ampara, Rathnapriya Oasis features accommodation with seating area. With garden views, this accommodation offers a patio and a swimming pool. This is a little gem and was one of our favourite stops in Sri Lanka. It's also right by the entrance of the national park which made our sightseeing convenient and easy. Bandula and Anousha are lovely hosts and go out of their way to make you comfortable and help organise your sightseeing. Our room was spacious an very clean and comfortable.
