Le Kree Downtown Hotel exceeded our expectations in every way! From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed by the friendly and attentive staff. The hotel’s ambiance is relaxing, with a lush small garden and a beautiful pool that provided a perfect escape after a day of sightseeing. Our room was stylish and well-equipped, and we especially loved the comfortable bed and balcony. The breakfast was fantastic, with fresh and flavorful options each morning. The location, though slightly outside the city center, made it a peaceful retreat while still being accessible to Phnom Penh’s top attractions. Perfect stay before my flight! It's so close to the airport. The staff is professional, helpful and really kind. I asked for a scale to check my suitcase, I got a very nice response. The bed is very comfortable. The room is spacious and has everything I needed, even a hairdryer. Everything was really clean and new. I asked in the restaurant to make one of the dishes vegetarian and it was prepared very tasty. I would suggest adding some vegetarian options to the menu for a bigger variety. I'll definitely come back!

Location and Transport

Phnom Penh International Airport is located around 6 miles (10 kilometres) from Phnom Penh city centre. The three main options for travelling between the two are taxi, tuk tuk and public buses. Taxis are the fastest and safest method, with a maximum journey time of one hour. Tuk tuks can be found within the airport grounds and have a set price of USD 9. An air-conditioned bus is the cheapest option to use and stops directly outside the airport. Services run from 05:30 to 20:30, departing every 15 minutes.

We did 2 tours when there street and contemporary art with Urban Jungle and also of the killing fields and genocide museum but didn't get to see a lot else. Hustling and bustling city with a very different vibe to Siem Reap and lots to explore I think around the city.

Silk Island is a haven of nature and tranquility on the river. It is close enough from Phnom Penh that you can escape the mania of the city, it only takes about an hour to get there by tuk tuk. You do not need long to discover the place, it is possible to visit in half a day if you are short of time. On the island itself, there are traditional Khmer communities living and working. There are a few tourist attractions related to the silk production that occurs on the island, but don't expect lots of developments, western style bars and restaurants etc. This is a living, working community.

A week is a really long time for a tourist in PP.

A week is a really long time for a tourist in PP. But, I like to take things slow. I paint, take photos and generally soak things up. Arguably there's not much more than a day or two's worth of big sights in PP, but I found there's real beauty on the street corners, if you look hard enough for it. Whether or not you do the genocide bits is up to you. You might feel you 'ought' to go, But I warn you, the stark reality of them will shock you, shatter your faith in humankind and put a real downer on what's supposed to be your holiday. Don't be ashamed to give them a miss, and maybe get into a conversation with someone local about it instead. You almost certainly will, and that will be enough to penetrate your heart. If you've only got a few days in Cambodia, do Siem Reap, but if you've got the time, don't write off this hectic, but rewarding capital.

I found Phnom Penh to be very busy, which made it difficult to get about as the traffic was just horrendous. That said, staying centrally meant we could walk to numerous eateries and bars. The cost was reasonable unlike other cities where the prices are hiked up. The history around the area with the genocide museum and killing fields is sobering and although difficult, very highly recommended. Beware though of the drivers selling tours on the roadside, they will try to charge more. We were caught out, agreeing to a price but then he added another site to see and then upped the price :( However we felt safe at all times, the atmosphere on the weekend walking street is friendly and people there for a good time. The stalls sell some interesting stuff
