We rented 701 and it was a true VIP experience. All the amenities you can imagine at a love hotel. Our suite had an outdoor bathtub, a sauna, and everything else was top notch and new. It really gets you into the mood....it's going to be really hard to beat this experience for us in the few more love hotels we are staying at in Shikoku. We booked this out of necessity as we had a late change of plans and all normal hotels were sold out or super expensive. We got VIP experience for a price of a cheap business hotel in Matsuyama.

Nice small well orgznized ryokan with tatami setup at the room. Nice quiet neighbourhood, with access to many nearby groceries like Lamu which operate 24hrs, and many other restaurants. Closer to the harbor seaside with short walking distance. The owner is really a nice lady which provided us lots of guidance to explore the nearby attraction places. Will certainly visit this place for a longer period in the near future!

Big room. Very spacious and value for money. But do note that is good only if you drive. There is basically nothing around the hotel. Breakfast was a big portion.

The accommodation is special at a high level with attention to small details. Traditional Japanese accommodation in a special place like a Japanese nature reserve. At every glance, you meet a website design accessory. The host is exceptionally cordial and wants to help and take care of every detail.

The old house was built in the early 1900s, by a rich merchant and it has probably not changed since then except electricity/modern bathroom and the addition thousands of poetry books. You fell you are travelling back in time, giving you a taste of an old Japanese house atmosphere and a glimpse of the personality of the people who lived there. It such a valuable experience to stay in an old house.
The second floor room is exclusively for you to enjoy, with toilets, sink... The room is very spacious and relaxing. The garden and interior are lovely. The amenities are much more modern than the house!
The area is also such a lovely surprise, an old quiet harbour being kept alive through small tea/coffees/restaurants. Arrive early during the day, and enjoy the walking tour on the map given by your hosts. It is a mix of old and new houses for inhabitants looking for authenticity, quiet & peace.
Most of all you want to support the immense work done by the hosts Maiko and Yoshi, who put their heart and sweat in keeping this beautiful typical house to its wonderful glory. Maiko speaks some English so it is easier for the communication.

This is located quite close to the station, so the trek with the bags on a very hot day was quite manageable. As many of the busses and the tram pass by the Station, it is easy for those who want yo 5ake public transport to the castle or spa to do so.

Matsuyama is a city with a lot to offer.
Matsuyama is a city with a lot to offer. From the stunning views from Matsuyama castle, to the history of Dogo Onsen. It has many hidden gems in the form of cafes, traditional craft and cultural experiences and is a good jumping off point to see the rest of Ehime/Shikoku.

The Best part about Matsuyama was where we stayed.
The Best part about Matsuyama was where we stayed. It was Ryokan Kominka Mitsuhama, and it was detailed by a true artist. You have 2 floors of space with the bedroom upstairs and a large living room downstairs. The living room is surrounded by 2 different mature and well lit Japanese gardens. One had many Koi swimming in the ponds. So lovely!
It was in a quiet, low key neighborhood but just 2 blocks to the river and near a little working fisherman's bay. The boats were squid fisherman with lights strung on them because they fish at night with the lights to attract the squid. There were plenty of small local restaurants and bakeries. It was a respite from tourist crowds and off the beaten path.

After Tokyo which is overrun with tourists Matsuyama has a far more traditional feeling. You can visit a variety of interesting sites in an unrushed and uncrowded manner. It is far more representative of Japan as it is lived in away from the crowds.
