The accommodation was very close to the train station, shops and restaurants. There was lots of space and was very clean. We loved the little living area with a kotatsu (heated) table, wifi and tv.

Fabulous quiet location among the trees. Lovely helpful, friendly staff. Has a hot spring. I’d like to try the glamping tents next time. The food at the cafeteria was great! Really delicious simple fare and a cheap price. The room was a good size and nicely Japanese style

It's a lot quieter than Tokyo or Osaka in comparison, but because of this felt very peaceful and I had a wonderful time exploring the town. The dinosaurs were very cute! Unfortunately I didn't manage to stay long enough for my liking, but definitely look forward to returning in the future.

An almost desert stretch of sea shore, at least in September. The beach is good both for swimming and surfing. There is also a couple of small nature reserves, including a bird-watching lake (to be visited preferably in winter when birds count in thousands, not dozens).

Nanta-dera is only a 15 minute drive away which was beautiful with the autumn leaves. The walk along the river in Yamanaka is stunning all year round. Yamanake is famous for wood turning so there is plenty of crafts to see. Nearby and also huge ancient cedar trees and it is an area of plentiful hot springs.

We enjoyed the parts of town we were able to experience during our short stay. The train station and surrounding area is dinosaur themed. It's really quite cool and very unique.
During our stay we visited the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum which our family (kids are aged 14 & 11) enjoyed. The train (and bus) trip to the museum was scenic and very pleasant.
Due to the size of Fukui it was easy to get around. There are plenty of places to eat and shop (again not too far from the train station).
I wish we could've stayed a little longer.

The onsen was totally Japanese in style and attention to detail, very relaxing and with a staff dedicated to providing the best service. They were attentive and helpful.
The forest near the onsen was beautiful for hiking and contemplating nature. Loved it.
I will definitely return and to the same onsen.

Fukui has a beautiful modern railroad station serving up old-school rail lines that go through the rice fields to the surrounding area as well as Japan's fastest Shinkansen to Osaka and Kyoto. This station's decor showcases dinosaurs celebrating the largest discovery of remains in Japan to be found nearby. The station's tourist bureau, which has an English-speaking staff member available, has tours to the dinosaur museum and several other local sites, but trains and dinosaurs must be a wonderful way to travel with children. The tourist bureau provided me with a local walking map to gardens and a ruined castle even though I actually traveled to Fukui to only to visit Eiheiji, a Zen Monastery active since the 13th-century -- which was wonderful.
