Naples is a busy city, with loads of interesting places to visit like Pompeii, Sorrento, the Metro and Train service is very good to get around. Loads of shops bars, dining areas. The people of the city are very welcoming. The prices of food and drink are very reasonable for a city. Its a must visit.
Naples is a city where you can tailor your itinerary to your needs. You can simply wander the narrow streets of the city, visit museums and churches of incredible interest, walk along the waterfront, have a snack in a nice bistro or enjoy an authentic Neapolitan meal in wonderful trattorias. You can also easily travel by train to visit Herculaneum, Pompeii, Amalfi, and Sorrento. If you prefer to bring your own car in Naples, it is essential to book a parking space and, while driving, you should be careful with scooters and cars, as Italians tend to drive unpredictably.
Naples is a very interesting city for art&music lovers. Plenty of museums, the oldest opera in the world San Carlo, excellent cusine out of touristic places. Could be more clean, but in comparison of previous stay is better
Napoli has soul and heart. It can come across as a bit rough but when you talk to people, eat their wonderful food with some wine you better understand them. The food; amazing pizza, pasta, mozzarella and Sfogliatella. The history; amazing museums in the city and areas close by (Pompei, Caserta, Ercolano etc) The location and views overlooking the sea, Vesuvio and starting point if you head to the Amalfi coast. Give Napoli a chance, look beyond the city centre and engage with the people. You will not regret it!
We spent five days in Naples from the end of October though beginning of November. Fascinating city with all that history both in the city and nearby (visited both Pompeii and Herculaneum). Perfect weather, temps were between 20-24 Celsius during the days and we were lucky, had only one day when it rained for couple of hours. Was kind of off season but still quite a lot of tourists there. Also traffic was super chaotic but walking around was still doable and hey, we survived it :) Food was mostly great, loved the taste of small tomatoes and also cheese was superb. Oh and all the pastries, to die for!
Learning about Pompeii and Mt Vesuvius was fascinating, we also had an awesome food tour (highly recommend) and a fun cooking class. We went in winter, and though a tad cold-- definitely worth it to avoid the crowds and queues. We did last minute bookings and didn't have to worry about anything being sold out.
